HBO Hard Knocks: Dolphins Insane to Make Ryan Tannehill's Rookie Year Reality TV

David DanielsJun 7, 2018

Stephen Ross is obsessed with attention.

The last thing that the Miami Dolphins need or deserve right now is cameras all up in their grill as they attempt to turn the sinking ship that is their franchise around. Despite that fact, Ross could not possibly resist his team being featured on HBO.

The official Twitter account of the Dolphins sent out this make-you-shake-your-head tweet on Tuesday afternoon:

Ross claimed 95 percent ownership of the Dolphins in 2009. What a coincidence, 2008 just happened to be the last year they sniffed the postseason. Since taking the reins in Miami, Ross recruited a handful of the greatest minds in football to be part-owners of the franchise—Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony as well as Venus and Serena Williams.

His failure to refuse Hard Knocks is not the least bit surprising. Ross’ decision is irresponsible and risks wrecking not only the Dolphins’ season, but Ryan Tannehill’s progression.

Tannehill is extremely raw. He only played quarterback two years at Texas A&M. The rookie needs ample time and attention to develop properly and no, not attention from guys wielding video cameras.

Miami selected Tannehill to eventually become their franchise quarterback. When you have a potential franchise quarterback, you do absolutely everything in your power to avoid a setback in his progression. Miami is not avoiding those risks—they are welcoming them.

Hard Knocks was already shunned by several different teams (you know the Dolphins were not their first choice) for a reason: the reality TV show transforms the gridiron from a battlefield to a stage. Miami is not a talented or mature enough football team to improve off their pitiful previous campaign while their focus is compromised.

When the Dolphins finish at the bottom of the AFC East yet again, at least they will have gotten their 15 minutes of fame.
