Not to be Outdone, LeBron James Scores 52 with a Triple-Double at MSG
Anything you can do, I can do better.
On Monday, Kobe Bryant scored 61. On Wednesday, LeBron James scored 52.
Madison Square Garden is the place to go watch a basketball game right now; this week two MVP candidates have came into New York and put on a show.
On Thursday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the New York Knicks 107-102.
I was watching closely as this game came down to an end, as LeBron James was just one rebound away from a triple-double.
LeBron managed to knock down a few free throws and a jumper inside of two minutes, which locked his score at 52.
In typical LeBron fashion, with a couple of seconds left, Chris Duhon missed a pointless three-point shot, and who grabs the rebound before the clock runs out? Who else but LeBron James?
King James finished the night with 52 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.
James' 52 points are the most points while getting a triple-double since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77.
He also only recorded one personal foul while playing 44 minutes, which I find incredible.
After the game, LeBron had this to say, "I feel great. For one, this is the greatest arena to play, and you always feel special when you come here and play the game of basketball."
LeBron joins Michael Jordan as the only two players to score 50-plus points twice at MSG, and is the first player since Kareem-Abdul Jabbar to score 50-plus points while getting a triple-double. "To be mentioned with the greats, it’s an honor, to be in the same breath as Kareem and Mike," James said.
While Bryant scored more points, LeBron finished with great numbers across the board. Who do you think had the better performance? If you are undecided, the players will decide it for you in a few days.
On Sunday, these two players meet in Cleveland to face off, and I am sure that is a hot ticket right now.
When asked about Sunday's game and Kobe coming to town, James said, "I believe Kobe will get into town on Saturday and I will try to reach out to him, we became great friends over the summer. It’s going to be a good show on Sunday."
What both of these players are doing right now is not only great for the NBA; it is impressive and jaw-dropping.
