NBA Draft 2012: 8 Best Court Generals Available in the Draft

Trevor LowryJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NBA draft has amazing players from top to bottom, and the field generals in the draft are no exception.

Although it is the forwards that are making all of the noise in most people's NBA mock drafts, the point guards should be getting a lot of hype as well, since point guards kind of control the tempo of the game and all.

Read on to see the eight best court generals available in the draft.

Tyshawn Taylor, Kansas

1 of 8

Points per game: 16.6

Assists per game: 4.8

Tyshawn Taylor is a big reason why the Kansas Jayhawks were so good this past season.

Taylor has great speed, which helps him to be a lock-down defender and get to the rim. He may not have the best shot in the world, but he still managed to be an elite scorer in college.

If Taylor can improve his jump shot, he will be a very successful player at the next level.

Marquis Teague, Kentucky

2 of 8

Points per game: 10

Assists per game: 4.8

Players like Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist may get a lot of credit for Kentucky winning the national championship this year, but what about Marquis Teague?

Every successful team needs a good point guard and Teague was definitely not shy of being that.

Teague sees the court very well, which is essential for being a good point guard, but he is also a great passer and dribbler.

The only glaring factor about him, is the fact that he needs to work on his shot, but he still manages to knock the ball down from time to time, and Teague is capable of finishing at the rim.

Scott Machado, Iona

3 of 8

Points per game: 13.6

Assists per game: 9.9

Scott Machado may have played for Iona, but there is no denying his talent.

Machado is an assist machine to say the least, thanks to his quickness and passing abilities. He is a very unselfish player, which is rather hard to find these days.

Machado may not score 20 points per night, but he definitely gets his team involved and throws out great dishes left and right.

Tony Wroten Jr., Washington

4 of 8

Points per game: 16

Assists per game: 3.7

Tony Wroten Jr. is rated as one of the best point guards in the draft for a reason.

At 6'5'', Wroten makes some amazing passes on a nightly basis, he loves to finish at the rim and his court vision is out of this world.

Wroten passes the ball very well, but when that is not working, he can create baskets for himself.

Damian Lillard, Weber State

5 of 8

Points per game: 24.5

Assists per game: 4

Damian Lillard is an absolute beast when it comes to scoring the ball. Lillard is good at penetrating the ball and he has a shot.

He may not be known as a past first, shoot second type of guard, but there are not many people that can score 24.5 points per game in college, but Lillard can.

J'Covan Brown, Texas

6 of 8

Points per game: 20.1

Assists per game: 3.8

Just like Damian Lillard, J'Covan Brown scores the basketball at a very high rate.

Brown may not have the best shot selection in the world at times, but it is hard to not let him shoot the ball so much because of his deep range and ability to finish at the rim.

Brown scored 20.1 points per game playing for a team in the Big 12. He is too legit to quit, and will prove his worth at the next level.

Tu Holloway, Xavier

7 of 8

Points per game: 17.5

Assists per game: 4.9

Did anyone see Tu Holloway play this year in the NCAA tournament? If so, then why is his draft stock so low?

Holloway may only be six-foot, but so is Chris Paul.

The amazing thing is that he is this short and can still take over a game like he does.

Holloway is a very talented point guard, who not only gets his team involved when he needs to, but also takes over the game at appropriate times.

Kendall Marshall, North Carolina

8 of 8

Points per game: 8.1

Assists per game: 9.8

The North Carolina Tar Heels did not win the national championship this year due to the fact that Kendall Marshall was injured in the NCAA tournament.

With Marshall on the court, North Carolina is a much better team.

Marshall is the best passer in the draft, he sees the court very well and his basketball I.Q. is way above average.

If Marshall wanted to score the basketball more, he certainly could, but he chooses to be unselfish by getting his team involved.
