Indy 500 Lineup: Will Power Will Continue His Dominance at Indy 500

Sam R. QuinnMay 25, 2012

The man with the best name in racing, Will Power, will continue his dominance over the other drivers in the IndyCar series with a victory at the Indy 500 on Sunday.

After finishing in seventh place in the opening race at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Power came back with a vengeance in the next three races, winning every one. Power has victories at Alabama, Long Beach and at the Sao Paulo Indy 300.

He's set to start in the second row alongside Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves and the two will be working together in their quest for victory. While the second row obviously isn't the best position a driver can be in, not starting in the first row has not impacted Power's chances to win this season.

Power won the pole in the last race in Sao Paulo and went on to win the race. But even when he hasn't won the pole (in Long Beach and Alabama) he's finished atop the pack in both races.

The drivers in front of him, and in his row (sans Castroneves), are largely inexperienced. They will be unable to handle the pressure of the big stage that comes with racing in the Indianapolis 500 and Power will capitalize on that.

Ryan Briscoe has just six career wins since his debut in 2005, and not even his pole victory will be enough for him to win. He's had a mediocre season thus far, finishing fifth, 14th, seventh and 25th after starting second, 12th, 11th and 10th. He won't be able to stay out in front of Power for too long.

James Hinchcliffe has never won a race on the IndyCar series. He's had a good season, finishing in fourth, sixth, third and sixth in the four races this season. This is only his sophomore year on the circuit and he might not have recovered yet from the psychological problem that comes along with losing a pole by one hair.

Ryan Hunter-Reay is inexperienced himself, and has tasted victory just three times since entering the field five years ago. However, he's been on a run of late, finishing sixth and second in the last two races. He's a dark horse to challenge Power at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Marco Andretti has been better known for his name rather than his racing prowess since joining the IndyCar circuit in 2006. He's won just two races in six years, so expect him to fade back into the pack once the race begins.

The weather is supposed to be extremely hot this weekend in Indianapolis, and Will Power will use his willpower to pull away from the field early on and cruise to victory.
