Preakness 2012: I'll Have Another's Momentum Will Carry Him to Triple Crown
The 2012 Preakness was one of the most epic horse races of all time. Of course, the finish was even more magical because I’ll Have Another passed Bodemeister to claim the race and position himself to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.
With the Belmont Stakes happening on June 9, there is a real chance that this incredible colt is going to sweep the three major American horse races this year. His biggest nemesis—Bodemeister—has bowed out of contention and it’s clear that I’ll Have Another is going to be a heavy favorite.
The one thing that I’ll Have Another’s team has to watch out for is unfamiliarity. Which is why they are heading to Belmont early.
According to Jay Privman of Drf.com, the winner of the first two legs of the Triple Crown has wasted no time travelling from Pimlico Race Course in Maryland to Belmont Park in New York to prepare and get acquainted.
According to Privman:
"[Trainer Doug] O’Neill will be starting his first horse in the Belmont Stakes. He is doing the same thing to prepare I’ll Have Another for the Belmont as he did for the Preakness. I’ll Have Another, owned by Paul Reddam, arrived at Pimlico soon after the Derby because O’Neill wanted him to get used to the track.
"
It definitely helped at Preakness and deviating from that formula would be borderline insane at this point. I’ll Have Another has found a winning formula and is going to be riding the momentum from the past two races to the first Triple Crown victory in 34 long years.
