Why Pac-Man's Opposition to Gay Marriage Doesn't Matter
Let's get one thing straight: Manny Pacquiao is first and foremost an international sporting superstar.
Yes, he is a politician in his home country of the Philippines, but that is not why he attracts people to him and is internationally renowned. Manny Pacquiao is a boxer, and he is paid to box. He is not paid to give his opinion on world issues, and he does not have to be "politically correct."
This is not the first time that a sports star has made controversial comments in public, and it most certainly won't be the last time. They are humans too and are allowed to voice their opinions.
I have no opinion on the matter of gay marriage because it is not a subject that has any effect on me. However if people are allowed to express themselves about why gay marriage should be allowed, why can't a person voice their opinion on why they object to it? Those who ridicule the opinions of those who are against gay marriage are just as bad as those who ridicule the opinion of people who are for gay marriage.
Pac-Man, just like every other individual, is allowed to voice his opinion regardless of if the majority of people think it is right or wrong. And for those believing Mayweather is for gay marriage, you can't be serious. Only two weeks ago Mayweather and his entourage were taking shots at Miguel Cotto sharing his bed with another man, but now we are all supposed to believe he is for gay marriage?
Right.
It is 2012, not 1912, and this issue should not be as big as everyone is making it out to be. I, myself, am doing what I just said we should not be doing, but it has to be said. Everyone has the right to voice his or her opinion, and nothing Pacquiao said (forget what he apparently said) was in any way offensive or attacking anyone.
Hopefully Pac-Man has learnt from this experience and we can focus on what we the fans pay the boxers to do, box!
