Power Ranking the Best WR Corps in the AFC North

Andrea HangstJun 5, 2018

The AFC North is a division rarely known for its passing prowess, however, all four teams are getting far more powerful in the air.

Well, mostly. Here are my power rankings for all four AFC North receiving corps.

Coming in fourth is the Cleveland Browns. The Browns had one of the worst receiving games in the league last year, but they failed to address it in the draft until the fourth round, when they took Travis Benjamin.

Benjamin will be joining No. 1 receiver Greg Little, who tied for the second-most drops in the league last season despite having just the 17th-most targets.

Accompanying Little is the oft-injured Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs, who is best-known as a return man. Looking at this crew of receivers, it’s easy to see why they’re last in the division.

In third is the Baltimore Ravens, who have one of the youngest receiving corps in the league. Despite fielding just two starting wideouts last season—veteran Anquan Boldin and rookie Torrey Smith—neither man had close to 1,000 receiving yards.

This year, they’ve managed to bring on another veteran—Jacoby Jones—but Jones will merely be competing with a crew of second- and first-year talent for the No. 3 job.

Yes, the Ravens are one of the better teams in the league, thanks to their running game and defense, but they need improvements to the pass game to be a more complete squad.

Until their group of receivers can gain experience and build chemistry with quarterback Joe Flacco, they’re the third best in the division.

In No. 2 is the surging Cincinnati Bengals. They can credit said surge to their improved passing game, helped along immeasurably by No. 1 receiver A.J. Green, who notched more than 1,000 receiving yards in his 2011 rookie season.

Though Cincy lost two veteran receivers in free agency, they managed to add two new ones via the draft—Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones.

Jones and Sanu join Green, Ryan Whalen, Armon Binns and Jordan Shipley to make one of the more dangerous receiving corps in the entire NFL.

Topping the list in the AFC North is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two of their receivers—Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace—each had more than 1,000 receiving yards last season.

Brown and Wallace remain on the roster, along with Emmanuel Sanders, red-zone threat Jerricho Cotchery and 2012 draft pick and hybrid running back/receiver Chris Rainey.

There’s little indication that the Steelers’ passing game will be dropping off with new offensive coordinator Todd Haley calling the plays. They remain the top receiving corps in the division as a result.
