2012 Preakness Post Positions: Which Long Shots Moved into Prime Position?
One of the best things that can happen to a horse facing tall odds to win the Preakness or any major race is to get lucky and draw a favorable post position.
Underdogs look a lot more appealing to people looking to bet when they get a post position that they can use to get off to a good start.
Let's look at three long shots who moved into prime position.
Pretension
Pretension comes into the Preakness with 30/1 odds to win, so he's quite a long shot at Pimlico. Pretension has a career record of 8-3-3.
Pretension comes into this weekend's race fresh off a victory on Kentucky Derby day at Canonero II. On the year, this horse has two wins and a second-place finish in five races.
Zetterholm
Zetterholm comes into Pimlico with 20/1 odds to take home the crown and got drawn to the No. 4 post position.
This horse comes into the Preakness on a three-race winning streak and hasn't finished worse than second in any race during 2012.
There's no reason why Zetterholm cannot impress at Pimlico given his recent success.
Daddy Nose Best
Daddy Nose Best will start at the No. 8 post position at the Preakness, and with 12/1 odds to win the race.
His 10th-place finish at the Kentucky Derby was his worst performance in the last year, so look for Daddy Nose Best to bounce back at a track that suits him better than Churchill Downs.
