Manny Pacquiao: PacMan's Commitment to Ring Proves He'd KO Floyd Mayweather
Priorities tell the story of Manny Pacquiao’s superiority to Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
Despite possessing a legacy that is far from finished, Pretty Boy Floyd is pondering retirement. He would be perfectly content to live the rest of his life living it up—they don’t call him Money May for nothing. While Floyd’s fire dwindles, PacMan’s is as radiant as ever.
ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported that retirement isn’t even on Pacquiao’s radar. The legend is focused on knocking out Timothy Bradley and after that, adding yet another W to his lengthy win-column.
One win Pacquiao would love to add is against Mayweather, but that dream matchup doesn’t look like it’ll ever develop. Trainer Freddie Roach minced no words on the topic. Following Floyd’s last bout he said:
“I did not see the Mayweather-Cotto fight but I do know that Floyd’s slippery defense is now better outside the ring than inside the ring. But that is the path he has chosen.”
Mayweather is pointing his blaming fingers in two different directions for the absence of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on boxing fans' calendars. Right after defeating Miguel Cotto, Money called out Pac by broadcasting this message to his HBO audience: “If you’re the best, take the test.” But in the post-fight press conference, he claimed that Bob Arum is the only thing preventing a showdown.
Pretty Boy is full of it. Pacquiao agreed to any and all testing. Mayweather doesn’t want to split the earnings of a fight 50-50—that’s what’s holding it up.
Roach went on to predict the outcome if the pair of future Hall of Famers were to eventually meet in the ring:
"Would Manny beat Floyd? You bet. The way to beat Floyd is to outwork him every minute of every round. Manny is the only fighter capable of executing that game plan. Activity kills Mayweather. You need to stay busy against him and not let him dictate the pace by slowing down the fight. Southpaws are his other weakness. Manny is just a bad combination for Floyd to fight.
"
The trainer concluded by countering Mayweather’s endless trash talk with a bit of his own: “If it would bring Floyd into the ring, I’d agree to have Manny fight him right-handed.”
Pacquiao’s passion would give him the edge over Mayweather and that’s why Money isn’t willing to bet on such a matchup.
