TNA Sacrifice Predictions: 4 Title Matches, Angle vs. Styles and More
TNA Wrestling presents Sacrifice, live on pay-per-view tonight!
TNA has been on a roll lately and that looks to continue with their annual May PPV.
The buildup to this show has been quite good as six of the seven matches have been booked for weeks. The seventh match, while booked this Thursday, has been building up over the past two months.
Out of those seven matches, four of them will see titles defended as the TNA World Heavyweight, Tag Team, Knockouts and Television Championships will be on the line.
Here are the matches and who I think will come out on top.
Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson
1 of 7Two years ago at the 2010 Sacrifice, these two went one-on-one and now Jeff Hardy and Mr. Anderson will be doing it again.
This feud started back up after Lockdown, when the two wrestlers were involved in a No. 1 contender’s match that was won by Rob Van Dam.
On the first Open Fight Night, though, they tried to reform their short-lived team from a few years ago and received a shot at the Tag Team Championship. They couldn’t get along and ultimately lost the match to the champions, Samoa Joe and Magnus.
This match was then booked, but Hardy tried to salvage what was left of their friendship. As Bobby Roode was going to cheat his way to victory against Anderson, Hardy came down to stop him. Anderson delivered a Mic Check to him as a thank you.
This past Thursday general manager Hulk Hogan broke up a brawl among them, Roode and RVD and booked a fatal-four way match with championship implications.
Neither Hardy nor Anderson won the match, so this match remained intact on the card.
I think this match will end up determining the next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Since Hardy has already received four title shots this year, I’m going with a Mr. Anderson victory here. I think his little side feud with Roode is also an indication of his victory and their upcoming feud.
Winner: Mr. Anderson
Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles
2 of 7Kurt Angle and A.J. Styles have feuded many times since Angle’s TNA debut in October 2006. Most of their rivalries have been over the World title, but this one is over proving that one can beat the other.
After Lockdown, the two battled it out on an episode of Impact Wrestling. Angle won the match after Styles was distracted by some pictures given to him by Christopher Daniels and Kazarian.
Angle then demanded this match so that he could prove that he could defeat Styles on his own.
Since then, the two have met in a six-man tag-team match but Styles has been preoccupied with Daniels and Kazarian. As Angle sat back and watched this past Thursday, Daniels and Kazarian revealed pictures of Styles with TNA president Dixie Carter.
With his top spot in TNA over the past decade now in question, Styles will have a lot on his mind during this match.
Will he be able to concentrate on Angle? I don’t think so. Styles will let his anger over the situation out on Angle, but that anger will be his downfall.
A.J. Styles will end up making a mistake and Kurt Angle will capitalize on it.
This will be a hell of a match, though.
Winner: Kurt Angle
Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray
3 of 7Austin Aries and Bully Ray were actually allies before this happened. Alongside Bobby Roode, they fought against Sting in an attempt to take him out of power.
After March’s Victory Road, though, everything changed.
During Aries’ X-Division Championship defense in a fatal-four way match, Bully Ray ran down and took out his three opponents before booting Aries right in the face.
The two have since only met a few times in the ring. Their most recent encounter was during a tag-team match after Lockdown. The majority of the time this feud has been all talk, but that talk has been excellent.
Both of them have produced pure gold on the mic with one another. They have brawled a few times as well, but their promos have been the highlight of the feud.
When it comes to the advantage, though, it definitely goes to "A Double." Their most recent confrontation happened last week when Aries beat down the much bigger Bully Ray.
Not only does he have that in the back of his mind, the bully has Joseph Park in his head. The return of Abyss has got to worry him as well.
With everything going on in Bully Ray’s head, I think this’ll go to Austin Aries. We could also see Joseph Park/Abyss cost the bully the match as well.
Either way, this match could potentially steal the show.
Winner: Austin Aries
Devon vs. Robbie E and Robbie T: Handicap Match for the Television Championship
4 of 7At Victory Road, Robbie E issued an open challenge for his Television Championship. It was answered by former tag-team champion Devon, who would win the title that night.
Robbie received his rematch at Lockdown, but he was unsuccessful in regaining the title.
After the PPV, Hulk Hogan announced Open Fight Night and declared that the TV title would be on the line every week. Since then, Devon has successfully defended his title against Gunner, Bully Ray, Robbie T and Robbie E.
His last two defenses resulted in being attacked by the Robbie’s and this past Thursday, Devon challenged them to this match.
With both Robbies in the match, I can see them turning on each other as both will want to become the champion. That will work to Devon’s advantage and he’ll retain the title because of it.
Winner and Still Champion: Devon
Gail Kim vs. Brooke Tessmacher: Knockouts Championship
5 of 7After being missing for a few months, Brooke Tessmacher made her return to TNA in an eight-Knockouts tag-team match and pinned champion Gail Kim.
The following week at the first Open Fight Night, Tessmacher successfully challenged Gail to a non-title match.
Tessmacher continued her momentum last week when she once again pinned the champion in a tag-team match, this time using Gail’s own finishing move.
Tessmacher had all the momentum in the world until this past Thursday. As she celebrated a win over former champion Velvet Sky, Gail slid in and attacked her, laying out her challenger with Eat Defeat.
When it comes to the women of the Knockouts division, no one has worked as hard as Brooke Tessmacher. She’s the only woman on the roster who didn’t have a wrestling background, so she really has had an uphill battle to improve.
Does that mean she’s ready for a run with the title? No, it doesn’t.
While she has improved immensely in the ring, I just don’t think she’s ready for a match such as this. While I’m glad to see a new face in the title hunt, I can’t see her winning the title.
At least not in her first outing.
Winner and Still Champion: Gail Kim
Samoa Joe and Magnus vs. Daniels and Kazarian: Tag Team Championship
6 of 7Despite being randomly put together in the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament, Samoa Joe and Magnus proved to be a cohesive unit with great chemistry. They went on to win the tournament last December but lose the title match in January.
The following month, though, they were the TNA tag team champions.
They have successfully defended their titles on multiple occasions, including against the Motor City Machine Guns at Lockdown. They are now facing a new challenge in Christopher Daniels and Kazarian, though.
Daniels and Kazarian have been together since December as well but have been targeting A.J. Styles that entire time. Even as Sacrifice approaches, the duo still has their sights set on him.
Daniels and Kazarian received their shot when they attacked the champions on Open Fight Night after they were denied a shot at the titles. Since the match was made, they have only met one time in a six-man tag-team match.
Last week the champions were nowhere to be seen as Daniels and Kazarian focused on Styles and it's that deranged obsession they have with him that will be their downfall.
They are so focused on Styles that the champions will be able to take advantage of that. A part of me thinks that Daniels and Kazarian will be looking over their shoulders the entire match, just waiting to see if Styles will run out to attack.
Their lack of focus on the titles will lead to Samoa Joe and Magnus retaining their belts.
Winners and Still Champions: Samoa Joe and Magnus
Bobby Roode vs. Rob Van Dam: Ladder Match for the World Championship
7 of 7Bobby Roode has been one of the most dominant champions in TNA’s 10-year history. Everyone Sting and Hulk Hogan have put in front of him has been taken down by the champ.
Some of his victories may be questionable, but his methods have kept him champion for 200 days. In fact, if he’s able to keep the belt for at least another 12 days, then he’ll become the longest reigning champion in company history.
He now faces a new challenge, though, in ECW legend and former world champion Rob Van Dam.
The Whole F’N Show returned after a three-month hiatus just before Lockdown and assisted Garret Bischoff in defeating his father Eric Bischoff in Lethal Lockdown. He soon found himself as the No. 1 contender for the world title and this match was booked for the PPV.
They have since met in tag-team action as well as the occasional brawl. This past Thursday both of them were involved in a fatal-four way that Van Dam won, thus giving him the right to choose the stipulation for this match.
RVD ended up going with a match he knows very well, a ladder match.
Van Dam’s unorthodox style will be a new challenge for the champion and with the match now a ladder match, Roode is at a distinct disadvantage.
At the same time, Roode is a wrestler who can adapt to whatever style of wrestling he’s up against. That could end up spelling trouble for RVD.
As for the winner, I think this will go to Roode. While a part of me thinks TNA will give Rob Van Dam the belt, ending Bobby Roode’s title reign so close to the record would be a really dumb move.
Winner and Still Champion: Bobby Roode
