College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking the Top 10 Recruits from Florida
We ranked the top-10 prospects from Texas on Sunday afternoon, and now we arrive to the Sunshine State.
Florida is also one of the three main hot bed states for recruiting. Many, many elite players who have become stars in both college and the NFL have come out of Florida, as this state is a sheer football state.
This 2013 class has some future stars in it, and many of them are from Florida yet again. Here are the top 10 prospects in Florida this year.
10. Jaynard Bostwick, DT
1 of 10Bostwick has all the traits you look for in a classic 3-4 end. He's 6'4', 280 pounds and has good strength.
He'll likely never be an elite pass-rusher, but he can stop, stack, drop his center of gravity to anchor and make a mess versus the run.
He flashes heavy hands in his punch and has the strength to disengage blocks, free up and make stops against the run.
Wisconsin, Oregon, Florida and Miami are on them hardest right now.
9. Mackensie Alexander, CB
2 of 10Alexander has the classic mentality of a cornerback: extremely confident and even a bit arrogant. He's 5'11", 185 pounds and has excellent athleticism.
He flashes great initial quickness and mirror ability, is quick out of transition and will make a play on the ball like a receiver. He may be better suited for the boundary in college, but his run support skills will help him be effective in that role.
8. Joey Bosa, DL
3 of 10Bosa is a versatile DL. He can play both DT and DE. I think, at 6'5" and nearly 265 pounds, he's on track to growing into a DT in college.
He's got a great motor, plays with solid strength and flashes some snap quickness when he's inside.
His length and size will make him a great DT in college, which will be Ohio State.
7. Daniel McMillan, LB
4 of 10A 6'2', 200-pounder, McMillan is the top LB in the state for 2013. He has the ability to factor at all three spots in a 4-3 alignment as a LB.
Mike may be his best spot, as he reads and reacts to run well and has good range. He's an attack-style defender who can thump in run alleys with good force.
McMillan is committed to Florida.
6. Stacy Coley, WR
5 of 10Coley has immense potential, and he really hasn't realized how good he could be. He's 6'1', 175 pounds and has the tools to be a star.
If he decides to hone his craft and really work on his skills, this guy could be a superstar. He possesses great speed, smooth athleticism, quickness in his cuts and can make plays with ease.
Florida is the school I think wins out here.
5. Ryan Green, RB
6 of 10Green is a super explosive back who has some Keith Marshall in him. He stands at 5'11', 190 pounds and has excellent ability in space.
Green is a sudden back, with excellent stop-and-start ability. He can explode to and through a hole, jump on top of the defenders at the second level, shake and bake and get to paydirt.
He also has good instincts and skills to be effective on screens. Florida, Florida State and Notre Dame are his top three, with Clemson, Oregon and Tennessee in the mix.
4. Matthew Thomas, LB
7 of 10Thomas is a hybrid defender who can play both LB and DE for a defense. He is 6'4", 210 pounds. Yes, I know he's a bit lean and light in the pants, but this guy can flat-out play.
He's a nightmare on the edges, can explode off the ball and has some length to stay clean during the rush. I think he fits best as a stand-up rush end in a 3-4 scheme as an OLB.
Miami, Alabama, South Florida, Florida State, Florida and Oklahoma are all on his trail.
3. Derrick Henry, RB
8 of 10Henry is 6'3", 240 pounds, and he is so athletic that he could find himself playing LB or DE in college. Yet, I think he prefers to play RB, and that's fine with me, because his production has been insane.
He's an accomplished 2000-yard runner with excellent speed and quickness—not just for a big back, but period. Henry has little back feet, great instincts and can good lateral quickness.
He's headed to Georgia.
2. Laremy Tunsil, OT
9 of 10Tunsil is the consensus top OL prospect in the country, and it's for good reason. He's 6'6" and has gotten his weight to almost 295 pounds this spring.
Also, Tunsil has clearly improved his strength, showing improvement with his anchor and upper body strength. Combine that with elite athletic ability, quick feet, agility and balance as an OL, and you see why college coaches want him on their campus.
Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, LSU and Alabama are his top five.
1. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB
10 of 10A 5'10', 180-pound cover corner, Hargreaves is a premier back-perimeter defender. He can slow play a passing play, not panic, read a route and jump it in off man.
He's not the fiercest jammer/press corner in the country, but Hargreaves can challenge in press and has the speed to recover. His hips are loose, and he can turn and run with ease.
The top CB prospect in America, Florida and South Florida appear to be out in front for his services.
