Floyd Mayweather: Power Ranking Opponents for Money May's Next Fight

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Floyd Mayweather knocked off Miguel Cotto in thrilling fashion, and now us eager fans want to know who's next.

Nay, we demand to know who's next.

When Mayweather gets done with his jail sentence, the world will be on the edge of their respective seats or La-z-boys waiting for Money to announce who he'll fight next.

Or maybe he'll announce it from jail—that would be fun.

Nonetheless, here's a look at potential next opponents for Floyd and who would make the best fight.

(Note: Miguel Cotto would make this list, but I chose to leave him out just because they just fought)

5. Retirement

Probably good for Mayweather and his personal life. Not good for us, who like watching pristine athletes punch each other in the face.

Nonetheless, this is a serious possibility for the 35-year-old Mayweather. At some point, he's just going to get bored with winning, and he even admitted after his fight against Cotto "that he has run out of opponents."

I'm pretty sure he has the money to retire on.

4. Timothy Bradley

If this fight actually happens, it would be a barn-burner because it would mean Bradley would be coming off a win over Pacquiao.

29-0 versus 43-0.

If Bradley doesn't beat Pac-Man, however, and he's not expected to, it's unlikely he'll get a shot at Money May.

3. Saul Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez is already at Money's current weight, he just spent last Saturday night beating the pulp out of Sugar Shane Mosley, and he's an incredibly marketable 21-year-old.

He hasn't really fought someone close to the allure of Money Mayweather, but among other things that make a lot of sense regarding this matchup, Canelo would put on a show.

He's young.

He doesn't know he shouldn't be messing with Mayweather.

He would come out guns blazing.

2. Sergio Martinez

So what if Mayweather started out as a super featherweight? He continues to move up classes, and if he wants yet another belt, he should move to middleweight and take on Sergio Martinez.

Besides, he'll have all that time in the rec area to bulk up.

Martinez has knocked out his last three opponents and he seems to be getting better with age. Mayweather would certainly challenge that notion in what would be an awesomely entertaining bout.

1. Manny Pacquiao

Unfortunately for boxing fans, the best potential matchup is the one that has the least possibility of happening.

Whether it's because of a urine test, or Mayweather's greed, or Bob Arum's greed, or Pacquiao's political career, there is always going to be something standing in the way.

Everyone wants it, no one is going to get it.

Sorry.
