Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Pac Is Only Opponent Left for Floyd Following Cotto Win
With a 43-0 record at 35-years old, it isn't easy for Floyd Mayweather to find opponents worth fighting.
In fact, after his recent handling of Miguel Cotto it is safe to say there is only one opponent left in his class worth fighting at all. The problem is we've known this for the last few years and we've still yet to see Floyd get in the ring with Manny Pacquiao.
We know Floyd's not going after middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, and the only way he'd fight Timothy Bradley is if the undefeated American actually knocks off Manny Pacquiao a month from now and even then it seems unlikely.
The inevitable truth is that Pacquiao is not only the one opponent we want to see fight Mayweather, but he's the only opponent left to fight Mayweather.
Both fighters only have so many years left in them before they hang up the gloves. It is unfortunate that now, if they ever do get in the ring with one another, it won't be during their primes.
Still, both fighters will have a huge asterisk on their list of achievements when all is said and done. If they retire without fighting one another it would be one of the biggest losses in boxing history.
They are not only two of the best in their generation, but they're two of the best ever. It is sad to think there is a chance they'll never square off against one another.
And it is a very real chance.
Mayweather heads off to jail for 87 days in nearly a month's time. What he'll choose to do after that is anyone's guess, but we know there will still be talk surrounding a potential superfight with Pacquiao.
In reality, it is the only fight left worth fighting.
