Mosley vs Alvarez: What Saul Must Do to Capitalize on Victory over Sugar Shane
Saul Alvarez earned an impressive victory over Sugar Shane Mosley on Saturday night and needs to capitalize on his new-found popularity.
The Mexican fighter is 40-0-1 in his career with 29 KO’s, which is more incredible when you factor in that he is just 21 years old.
Alvarez is definitely the next big rising star in boxing and should be working on establishing more credibility and then eventually fighting either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao—possibly both.
Here are some things he can do to make superstardom a reality.
Take on Miguel Cotto
Cotto is fresh off a tough loss to Money Mayweather on the same night that Alvarez emerged a winner over Mosley.
If Canelo were to beat Junito, who is now 37-3 during his solid career and gave Mayweather everything he could handle, it would certainly be a huge notch in the young fighter’s belt.
Alvarez told ESPN.com that he learned invaluable lessons in beating an older Mosley:
""This was a great experience," Alvarez said. "I felt really good and I want to thank Shane for giving me this experience. He's a great fighter, a true veteran. I tried to knock him out. He took a lot of punches, but it didn't work."
"
He should look to apply that experience against a fighter in his prime like Cotto.
Schedule a Megafight
If Alvarez proves himself worthy against a beast like Cotto, it would be time for the upcoming boxer to take on the best of the best.
Mayweather and Pacquiao are both getting up there in years, and wasting valuable time to schedule either of them would be waste.
Should Canelo be able to best them in the ring, he would without a doubt be the best boxer on the planet and the latest superstar in the sport.
