College Football Recruiting 2013: Power Ranking the Top 10 Recruits from Texas

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

Texas is one of the three super hotbed recruiting states, along with California and Texas. The Lone Star State just oozes talent year in and year out, and it always will.

High school football programs are almost worshipped in the same light as the Cowboys and Texans are, and college football is huge in the state.

For this read, I'm going to rank the top 10 prospects in Texas for 2013 recruiting. Let's get started.

10. A'Shawn Robinson, DT

1 of 10

Robinson is a 6'5", 305-pounder that can play DT or OT. He's very, very athletic for his size and shows good movement for such a large man.

Robinson shows the agility and feet of perhaps a LT prospect, but has the strength and snap quickness to become a big menacing DT.

He's committed to Texas.

9. Darius James, OC

2 of 10

James is big for an OC prospect, yet he has the skill set to excel at the pivot position in college at 6'6" and nearly 320 pounds.

He's quick at the snap, can lean on targets, has good strength to move them off their spot and can roll hips and finish. James will shuffle his feet quickly as a pass protector and has the athleticism to adjust in space.

He's committed to Texas.

8. Justin Manning, DT

3 of 10

Manning is a 6'2", 275-pounder that has the quickness, one-gap ability and skill set of a promising three-technique defensive tackle prospect.

He's not the biggest DT in the world, but he's very athletic, quick off the ball and can read run and pass very quickly. Manning can jump on top of blockers as a rusher and can also play some DE for you too.

He's got offers from all over the country.

7. Dontre Wilson, RB

4 of 10

Wilson can also be listed as an ATH because he's that versatile. The 5'10", 180-pounder is dynamite with the ball, as his speed and quickness are lethal to defenses.

Wilson can do it all for an offense, lining up at RB one play, slot WR the next, Wildcat QB the next and then outside WR. He's shifty, elusive in space and will be a great change-of-pace back in college.

Oregon or Texas is my guess.

6. Kent Perkins, OT

5 of 10

Perkins is very good space as a pass protector because of his great feet. He's 6'6" and 285 pounds at this stage of his development.

A player that can play RT or LT, he's not a mauler in the run game, but Perkins can snap off quickly, jump on top of his targets and wall them off in a flash. He should develop into a starter because of his pass protection skills.

Perkins is committed to Texas.

5. Jake Raulerson, OT

6 of 10

It seems like Raulerson is likely to start out his college career as an OT, and while I'm fine with that, I just won't be overly surprised if he ends up at another position.

Raulerson, 6'5" and 250 pounds, is one of the most versatile players in the country. He's got a mean streak to his on-field demeanor, is very agile on his feet and can play many positions for a team.

He's headed to Texas.

4. Derrick Griffin, WR/TE

7 of 10

Griffin is a 6'6" pass catcher that is nearly 220 pounds. He deceptively fast and is not just a possession receiver by any means.

He's imposing to cornerbacks, can get off press coverage with solid strength, has good quickness in his cuts, awesome length to help his strike zone and good hands.

Griffin is committed to Texas A&M.

3. Keith Ford, RB

8 of 10

The top RB in the state for this year, Ford isn't Johnathan Gray, but he's darn close. 5'11" and 200 pounds, he shows a solid burst to and through holes, excellent vision and natural run instincts.

Ford has good run strength, can break a tackle or push a pile. He's easily one of the top bell-cow backs in the nation.

Ford is committed to Oklahoma.

2. Ricky Seals-Jones, WR

9 of 10

Seals-Jones has some developing to do as a pass catcher, but his ceiling is extremely high. He's 6'5", 220 pounds and is a terrific athlete.

Showing off good speed, elite athletic ability and agility, Seals-Jones is one of the top WR prospects in the country. He's also large enough that he could make the transition to TE later on in college.

He's headed to Texas.

1. Tyrone Swoopes, QB

10 of 10

Swoopes is a 5-star QB prospect that is hailed as the nation's No. 1 dual-threat QB recruit for 2013.

The 6'5", 220-pounder has drawn some praise as the next Vince Young, but I'll even go further and say he has a better throwing stroke than Young does. Swoopes has a high ceiling, great athleticism, a strong arm and good running ability.

He's also committed to Texas.
