NBA Mock Draft 2012: Fully Updated Two-Round Mock for Top College Stars
With the first round of the NBA playoffs starting to draw to a close, it's time for another mock draft of the 2012 NBA draft.
All 60 picks are accounted for here with the pre-lottery order. For each pick, collegiate/international production, potential and team need were taken into account.
Trust me, my crystal ball says that all of these picks are perfect if the draft order doesn't change. Unfortunately, we'll never find out because the ping pong balls are bound to defy the odds at least a little bit.
I always like for my mock drafts to have a theme, so this time we're looking at the playmaking ability of each player. Rebounding doesn't matter and defense doesn't matter (but both were taken into account when determining the selections).
To look at the playmaking, I'm using a metric I developed earlier in the year, one called "playmaker rating." You can find a full description of the metric by clicking on this link (just be warned that minutes per game were substituted for usage rate), but it essentially measures how efficiently a player creates points through his scoring and passing.
You should also be warned that a lot of second-round players will have inordinately high playmaker ratings because they have larger roles within their offensive systems and aren't as complete or high-potential as the first-rounders.
Without further ado, let's mock.
1. Charlotte Bobcats: Anthony Davis (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
1 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: PF/C
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'10", 220 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.3 points, 10.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists
Thanks to his efficiency, Anthony Davis made up for a lack of involvement in the Kentucky Wildcats offense.
The unibrow's otherworldly defensive abilities are the primary reason he's earned the top overall spot in the draft, but his offense is severely, severely underrated.
Playmaker Rating: 39.90 (No. 7 out of 60)
2. Washington Wizards: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
2 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: SF
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'7", 232 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 11.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's strength in transition, coupled with his weak jump shot that he needs to improve immediately, leave him as a below-average playmaker in this draft class.
His strengths, though, lie in his motor and defensive prowess.
Playmaker Rating: 30.20 (No. 40 out of 60)
3. Cleveland Cavaliers: Bradley Beal
3 of 60School: Florida
Position: SG
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'3", 207 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists
Drawing comparisons to Eric Gordon and other well-rounded shooting guards, Bradley Beal can truly do it all on offense.
Cutting down on the turnovers will allow him to make the step to the next offensive level.
Playmaker Rating: 35.62 (No. 19 out of 60)
4. New Orleans Hornets: Andre Drummond
4 of 60School: Connecticut
Position: PF/C
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'10", 270 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 0.5 assists
Andre Drummond's playmaker rating just goes to show how much work he needs to put in if he's going to make his offensive game transition from raw to decent.
The big man's body is NBA-ready, but all the skills are lagging behind.
Playmaker Rating: 22.94 (No. 56 out of 60)
5. Sacramento Kings: Thomas Robinson
5 of 60School: Kansas
Position: PF
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'10", 237 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists
You may have expected Thomas Robinson to rank higher in this stat, but his turnover-prone ways and struggles from the charity stripe have depressed his numbers.
Robinson desperately needs to be a little more careful with the basketball.
Playmaker Rating: 29.60 (No. 42 out of 60)
6. Portland Trail Blazers: Perry Jones III
6 of 60School: Baylor
Position: PF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'11", 235 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists
There were times during the season where it seemed as though Perry Jones III was one of the nation's best playmakers, but his ridiculous inconsistency would also make us viewers endure stretches where he looked completely incompetent and uninvolved on the offensive end of the court.
This is the result of that dangerous balancing act.
Playmaker Rating: 29.60 (No. 43 out of 60)
7. Golden State Warriors: Harrison Barnes
7 of 60School: North Carolina
Position: SF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'8", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists
Harrison Barnes is a great spot-up shooter, but he can't create his own shot and his passing is absolutely atrocious.
I suspected his playmaking would be bad despite his high-volume scoring, but I didn't expect it to be quite this putrid. That said, part of the low ranking is a result of playing for a stacked North Carolina team that didn't allow him to play quite as many minutes.
Playmaker Rating: 27.26 (No. 51 out of 60)
8. Toronto Raptors: Jared Sullinger
8 of 60School: Ohio State
Position: PF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'9", 265 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists
Note about the pick: Expect to see the Toronto Raptors attempt to trade out of this pick as they don't need big men (especially with the upcoming arrival of Jonas Valanciunas), but the draft class is filled with power forwards at the top.
Jared Sullinger may struggle against length, but the big man still scores quite efficiently thanks to his great strength.
Playmaker Rating: 31.40 (No. 34 out of 60)
9. Detroit Pistons: John Henson
9 of 60School: North Carolina
Position: PF/C
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'11", 220 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists
John Henson's offensive game improved throughout his collegiate career, but it still remains a work in progress at best.
His free-throw percentage and lack of minutes kept his playmaker rating from jumping a few players in front of him.
Playmaker Rating: 27.87 (No. 48 out of 60)
10. New Orleans Hornets: Jeremy Lamb
10 of 60School: Connecticut
Position: SG/SF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'5", 180 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists
Jeremy Lamb seized the chance to be the man for Connecticut and never looked back—on offense, at least.
The swingman (although he'll likely settle in at shooting guard once he gets to the NBA) was always on the court and shot quite well for a guard.
Playmaker Rating: 38.91 (No. 11 out of 60)
11. Portland Trail Blazers: Damian Lillard (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
11 of 60School: Weber State
Position: PG/SG
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'3", 195 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 24.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists
Damian Lillard could very well become the next point guard in the NBA who defies the typical "pure point guard" mold.
A scoring sensation who also recognizes when to use his passing skills, the Weber State junior earned the No. 3 spot among playmakers, and that should come as no surprise.
Playmaker Rating: 42.57 (No. 3 out of 60)
12. Milwaukee Bucks: Tyler Zeller
12 of 60School: North Carolina
Position: PF/C
Year: Senior
Vitals: 7'0", 250 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 16.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists
Tyler Zeller improved his arsenal of post moves during his senior season and extended the range of his jump shot into the teens.
While he might not stand out as an offensive weapon, Zeller is a solid all-around player.
Playmaker Rating: 29.15 (No. 44 out of 60)
13. Phoenix Suns: Kendall Marshall (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
13 of 60School: North Carolina
Position: PG
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'4", 195 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 9.7 assists
Kendall Marshall's playmaker rating should speak volumes as to what ridiculous court vision can do for you.
Even though he's a limited scorer, the lefty can wheel and deal with the best of them, and his rank here reflects that.
Playmaker Rating: 45.59 (No. 2 out of 60)
14. Houston Rockets: Meyers Leonard
14 of 60School: Illinois
Position: C
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 7'1", 245 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists
Meyers Leonard may be a raw offensive product, but the sophomore seven-footer still put up solid numbers during his second season at Illinois.
Leonard nearly shot 60 percent from the field and was more than adequate from the charity stripe. Cutting down on the turnovers would help, though.
Playmaker Rating: 32.20 (No. 30 out of 60)
15. Philadelphia 76ers: Terrence Jones
15 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: SF/PF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'9", 252 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists
Terrence Jones learned how to do things other than drive to his left during his sophomore season under John Calipari and it paid off.
The big, versatile forward wasn't the No. 1 option for Kentucky, but he still contributed his fair share of offense for the Wildcats.
Playmaker Rating: 28.44 (No. 47 out of 60)
16. Houston Rockets: Quincy Miller
16 of 60School: Baylor
Position: SF
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'9", 200 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 10.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists
Quincy Miller has all the talent necessary to be a terrific scorer, but he needs to pick and choose his spots better first.
The small forward who has drawn some comparison to a poor man's version of Kevin Durant called his own number way too often as a freshman, and his 44.7 percent shooting from the field reflects that.
Playmaker Rating: 22.52 (No. 57 out of 60)
17. Dallas Mavericks: Austin Rivers
17 of 60School: Duke
Position: PG/SG
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'4", 200 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists
Austin Rivers is another player with the potential to do so much better than this.
The son of Doc Rivers, the current coach of the Boston Celtics, Austin has a tremendous ability to create his own shot and get into the paint, but he turns the ball over too often and has the unfortunate tendency to play too aggressively and make the wrong decision.
Playmaker Rating: 32.07 (No. 33 out of 60)
18. Minnesota Timberwolves: Terrence Ross
18 of 60School: Washington
Position: SG/SF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'6", 195 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists
Terrence Ross' turnover percentage increased by 3.1 percent from his freshman to sophomore season, and that was the biggest negative factor for his below-average playmaker rating among this draft class.
His athleticism is more than enough to get by at the next level, but he needs to start taking more care of the ball and finding his teammates with his passes a little more often.
Playmaker Rating: 30.37 (No. 39 out of 60)
19. Orlando Magic: Marquis Teague
19 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: PG
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'2", 189 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 9.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists
Marquis Teague is another player who needs to cut back on the number of times he gives the ball to the other team, and he also needs to choose his shots more effectively, but the oft-criticized point guard for the Kentucky Wildcats still has great court vision.
His 4.8 assists per game and proficiency at the charity stripe still allowed him to generate a playmaker rating in the top half of this draft class.
Playmaker Rating: 33.58 (No. 24 out of 60)
20. Denver Nuggets: Tony Wroten
20 of 60School: Washington
Position: PG/SG
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'5", 205 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 16.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists
Tony Wroten turned the ball over 3.8 times per game, which is tied with the next player drafted for the most among all members of this draft class.
That's not going to cut it.
Playmaker Rating: 26.4 (No. 53 out of 60)
21. Boston Celtics: Royce White
21 of 60School: Iowa State
Position: No Idea (but really SF/PF)
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'8", 270 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists
Royce White also turned the ball over 3.8 times per game, but he also passed the ball significantly better than Tony Wroten.
It would be nice to see the versatile forward play with a bit more carefulness, but the aggressiveness is part of what makes him so effective.
Playmaker Rating: 31.29 (No. 35 out of 60)
22. Boston Celtics: Arnett Moultrie
22 of 60School: Mississippi State
Position: PF/C
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'11", 230 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists
There's a chance that Arnett Moultrie will be taken in the lottery, but if he's not, he'll be a steal for whoever drafts him.
Although Moultrie is another turnover-prone player, his efficiency when shooting the ball was staggering, seeing as he shot well over 50 percent from the field during his junior season.
Playmaker Rating: 35.54 (No. 20 out of 60)
23. Atlanta Hawks: Moe Harkless
23 of 60School: St. John's
Position: SG/SF
Year: Freshman
Vitals: 6'8", 208 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists
Moe Harkless defensive abilities and hands are his best attributes, but he's still a decent playmaker as well.
As is so often the case, it's the turnovers that he needs to cut down on first and foremost.
Playmaker Rating: 30.83 (No. 38 out of 60)
24. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jeffery Taylor
24 of 60School: Vanderbilt
Position: SF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'7", 225 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists
Jeffery Taylor is all about athleticism.
Surprisingly, however, the Vanderbilt small forward is in the top half of this draft class when it comes to playmaker rating, primarily because of his tremendous shooting efficiency.
Playmaker Rating: 32.29 (No. 28 out of 60)
25. Memphis Grizzlies: Dion Waiters
25 of 60School: Syracuse
Position: PG/SG
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'4", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 12.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists
The biggest thing holding Dion Waiters back here is the 24.1 minutes per game he played during his sophomore season with Syracuse.
Sometimes being a part of a very deep team isn't the best thing for your stats, as is the case here.
Playmaker Rating: 27.59 (No. 50 out of 60)
26. Indiana Pacers: Evan Fournier
26 of 60Team: Poitiers
Position: SG/SF
Age: 19
Vitals: 6'7", 206 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists (In Pro A France)
It's always difficult to translate numbers from foreign leagues, so these are only included for posterity's sake.
Playmaker Rating: 25.32 (No. 54 out of 60)
27. Miami Heat: Fab Melo
27 of 60School: Syracuse
Position: C
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 7'0", 255 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 7.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 0.7 assists
Fab Melo has always been viewed as a defensive prospect who's extremely limited on the offensive end of the court, so this ranking should come as no surprise to you whatsoever.
Melo shoots efficiently from the floor, but he isn't very involved in the Syracuse offense and turns the ball over a bit too often.
Playmaker Rating: 23.09 (No. 55 out of 60)
28. Oklahoma City Thunder: Draymond Green
28 of 60School: Michigan State
Position: SF/PF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'7", 230 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 16.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists
Draymond Green was the Michigan State offense quite often throughout the 2011-2012 college basketball season.
Unfortunately, though, that forced the versatile combo-forward into too many turnovers and a low shooting percentage. His positives made up for it, but his playmaker rating wasn't quite as high as it should have been.
Playmaker Rating: 33.38 (No. 25 out of 60)
29. Chicago Bulls: Doron Lamb
29 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: SG
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'4", 210 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists
This sharp-shooter for the Kentucky Wildcats was one of the national champions's most consistent players over the course of their terrific season.
Doron Lamb shot well, nailed a few three-pointers and almost never turned the ball over.
Playmaker Rating: 37.15 (No. 15 out of 60)
30. Golden State Warriors: Andrew Nicholson
30 of 60School: St. Bonaventure
Position: PF/C
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'9", 240 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 18.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists
If Andrew Nicholson had played more minutes per game during his senior season, he would have found himself in the top half of the members of this draft class when it comes to playmaker rating.
As it stands now, however, the combination of his 30.1 minutes per game and 2.5 turnovers per game as a big man aren't enough for that to happen.
Playmaker Rating: 30.9 (No. 37 out of 60)
31. Charlotte Bobcats: Darius Miller
31 of 60School: Kentucky
Position: SF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'8", 225 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists
This ranking shows just how efficient Darius Miller was off the bench. For a guy to average less than 10 points per game and just 26 minutes per contest and still not find himself in the bottom 10 is quite impressive.
If Miller had been the star of his team and averaged just 32 minutes per game (even without the according increases in points and the other stats), his playmaker rating would have been ranked 21st.
Playmaker Rating: 28.72 (No. 46 out of 60)
32. Washington Wizards: Will Barton
32 of 60School: Memphis
Position: SG/SF
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'6", 175 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 18.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists
Will Barton has the athleticism and offensive firepower necessary to be the biggest steal of this draft.
He can go through, around or even over any defensive player.
Playmaker Rating: 39.35 (No. 10 out of 60)
33. Cleveland Cavaliers: Festus Ezeli
33 of 60School: Vanderbilt
Position: C
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'11", 255 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists
I'm sorry Festus Ezeli, but this is kind of sad.
Playmaker Rating: 17.88 (No. 59 out of 60)
34. Cleveland Cavaliers: John Jenkins (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
34 of 60School: Vanderbilt
Position: SG
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 6'4", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 19.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists
John Jenkins is an incredible three-point shooter who reminds of some combination of Ray Allen and Stephen Curry each and every time he plays. I'm not saying he's going to be as good as either of them, though, just that his game reminds me of them.
If you ever want a clinic in coming off screens to free yourself, call Jenkins.
Playmaker Rating: 39.58 (No. 9 out of 60)
35. Golden State Warriors: Tomas Satoransky
35 of 60Team: Qalat Cajasol
Position: PG/SG
Age: 20
Vitals: 6'7", 210 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 4.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists (In ACB)
It's always difficult to translate numbers from foreign leagues, so these are only included for posterity's sake.
Playmaker Rating: 15.29 (No. 60 out of 60)
36. Sacramento Kings: Furkan Aldemir
36 of 60Team: Galatasaray
Position: PF
Age: 20
Vitals: 6'9", 220 pounds
2011-2012 Per-Game Stats: 8.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists (in Turkish League)
It's always difficult to translate numbers from foreign leagues, so these are only included for posterity's sake.
Playmaker Rating: 22.38 (No. 58 out of 60)
37. Toronto Raptors: Tyshawn Taylor
37 of 60School: Kansas
Position: PG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'3", 185 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists
Tyshawn Taylor's turnovers may have given Kansas Jayhawks fans a few heart attacks, but the aggressiveness he played with also allowed him to be a great collegiate player.
A tremendous scorer with a knack for finding the open man, Taylor was indeed careless with the ball, but you just had to accept the bad with the good.
Playmaker Rating: 35.17 (No. 21 out of 60)
38. Denver Nuggets: Kevin Jones (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
38 of 60School: West Virginia
Position: PF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'7", 260 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 20.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists
This was the most surprising entrant in the top 10 to me.
I knew Kevin Jones was an efficient offensive player, but I hadn't realized just how well he put together everything on offense. His 50.9 percent shooting from the field, lack of turnovers and solid assist numbers are a deadly combination.
Playmaker Rating: 41.31 (No. 6 out of 60)
39. Detroit Pistons: Jae Crowder
39 of 60School: Marquette
Position: SF/PF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'6", 235 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists
The Big East Player of the Year can simply do it all and offense is no exception.
Jae Crowder's most impressive stat though has to be his 7.9 percent turnover percentage, which is just crazy low.
Playmaker Rating: 38.45 (No. 13 out of 60)
40. Portland Trail Blazers: Orlando Johnson
40 of 60School: UC Santa Barbara
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'5", 205 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 19.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists
This was a down year all-around for Orlando Johnson, who scored less, shot worse from the field and struggled more from the charity stripe than he did as a junior.
Just for comparison's sake, Johnson's playmaker rating during the 2010-2011 season was a slightly-better 36.10.
Playmaker Rating: 35.85 (No. 16 out of 60)
41. Portland Trail Blazers: Drew Gordon
41 of 60School: New Mexico
Position: PF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'9", 245 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists
Drew Gordon's primary strength is his glass-crashing ability. The big power forward is more than capable of pulling down any offensive rebound or any shot that is missed by the other team.
He's a solid offensive player, but he's nothing special on that end.
Playmaker Rating: 28.75 (No. 45 out of 60)
42. Milwaukee Bucks: Kevin Murphy
42 of 60School: Tennessee Tech
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'6", 185 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 21.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists
Scoring 21.1 points on 44.4 percent shooting is impressive, but it would be a lot more impressive if the shooting percentage were higher.
His missed shots and 3.3 turnovers per game kept this talented scorer's ranking from being any higher.
Playmaker Rating: 32.09 (No. 31 out of 60)
43. Atlanta Hawks: Scott Machado (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
43 of 60School: Iona
Position: PG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'1", 180 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 9.9 assists
Sleeper alert!
If I were a general manager, I'd be taking Scott Macahdo quite a bit earlier than No. 43 because of his marvelous blend of scoring and passing abilities.
A three-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio is quite impressive when you're averaging 9.9 assists per game. And shooting 49.5 percent from the field isn't too shabby either.
Playmaker Rating: 47.68 (No. 1 out of 60)
44. Detroit Pistons: Jared Cunningham
44 of 60School: Oregon State
Position: SG
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'4", 194 pounds
2011-2012 Per-Game Stats: 17.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists
With his great athleticism and above-average scoring ability as a junior shooting guard, I can't wait to see what Jared Cunningham can do with the ball once he adds some strength to his wiry frame.
Playmaker Rating: 35.14 (No. 22 out of 60)
45. Philadelphia 76ers: Tu Holloway (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
45 of 60School: Xavier
Position: PG/SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'0", 190 pounds
2011-2012 Per-Game Stats: 17.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists
Before the unfortunate Xavier-Cincinnati brawl, Tu Holloway was a potential first-round pick.
Well, guess what? He's still got that scoring ability and ridiculous free-throw stroke that once gave him so much hype.
Playmaker Rating: 41.61 (No. 5 out of 60)
46. Washington Wizards: Darius Johnson-Odom
46 of 60School: Marquette
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'2", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists
Darius Johnson-Odom tends to put his head down when he drives a little too much, which limits his ability to find open teammates and rack up assists.
That said, DJO is still a great offensive player who makes up for his lack of height with great technique.
Playmaker Rating: 34.38 (No. 23 out of 60)
47. Utah Jazz: Marcus Denmon (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
47 of 60School: Missouri
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'3", 185 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Missouri's uptempo offensive system had a little bit to do with this ranking.
Marcus Denmon is a quick, undersized guard with a great shooting stroke, but I don't truly think of him as a top-10 playmaker.
Playmaker Rating: 42.32 (No. 4 out of 60)
48. New York Knicks: Alex Young
48 of 60School: IUPUI
Position: SG/SF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'6", 212 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 20.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.0 assists
Alex Young is a great example of the type of offensive player I'm not very fond of.
Scoring more than 20 points per game is impressive, but you're shooting the ball too often and not passing enough if you're only hitting on 42.4 percent of the shots it requires to score that many buckets.
Playmaker Rating: 32.28 (No. 29 out of 60)
49. Orlando Magic: Kris Joseph
49 of 60School: Syracuse
Position: SF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'7", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 13.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists
See the previous slide. Kris Joseph isn't quite as egregious a violator of my personal rule though.
Playmaker Rating: 32.08 (No. 32 out of 60)
50. Denver Nuggets: William Buford
50 of 60School: Ohio State
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'6", 220 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists
William Buford really struggled to find his shot during the second half of the 2011-2012 college basketball season, much to the chagrin of the Ohio State Buckeyes, but he still managed to finish in the top half of the draft class when it comes to playmaker rating.
The talented shooting guard is going to be a steal if he falls this far.
Playmaker Rating: 33.30 (No. 26 out of 60)
51. Boston Celtics: Herb Pope
51 of 60School: Seton Hall
Position: Senior
Year: PF/C
Vitals: 6'8", 236 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists
Herb Pope has a good bit of potential on both sides of the ball, although that's slightly lowered because of his 6'8" frame, but he still has a lot of work to do.
Pope's 47.1 percent shooting from the field is a bit low for a big man, and his turnover numbers are way too high.
Playmaker Rating: 26.87 (No. 52 out of 60)
52. Golden State Warriors: Kyle O'Quinn
52 of 60Team: Norfolk State
Position: PF/C
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'10", 240 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists
If Norfolk State hadn't upset Missouri, I highly doubt Kyle O'Quinn would have generated enough buzz to be drafted. However, that one game boosted his stock quite a bit.
Although the big man flew under the radar all season, he still put together a solid offensive season.
Playmaker Rating: 30.99 (No. 36 out of 60)
53. Los Angeles Clippers: Maalik Wayns
53 of 60School: Villanova
Position: Point Guard
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'2", 185 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists
Stats: 17.6 points per game, 41.4 percent shooting from the field.
I'm guessing that you know how I feel about that at this point.
Playmaker Rating: 35.78 (No. 17 out of 60)
54. Philadelphia 76ers: Mike Scott
54 of 60School: Virginia
Position: PF
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'8", 237 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 18.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists
Mike Scott is crazily efficient from the field. As a senior, he put up by far the best numbers of his collegiate career and shot a scorching 56.3 percent from the field.
Scott's passing could improve, but I'm not going to pick too many nits here.
Playmaker Rating: 33.04 (No. 27 out of 60)
55. Dallas Mavericks: J'Covan Brown
55 of 60School: Texas
Position: PG/SG
Year: Junior
Vitals: 6'1", 197 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 20.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists
J'Covan Brown (he of the 41.7 percent shooting from the field, which just so happens to be a career high) is an incredibly frustrating player to watch.
He'll make one shot that leaves you scratching your head at the difficulty level, but then he'll go cold and refuse to stop shooting.
Playmaker Rating: 37.65 (No. 14 out of 60)
56. Toronto Raptors: Dee Bost (Top 10 Playmaker Alert)
56 of 60School: Mississippi State
Position: PG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'2", 176 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 15.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists
If you're looking for a mega-sleeper in this year's draft class, look no further than Dee Bost, who may very well go undrafted.
Bost tends to push the pace a little bit too much and he can be careless with the ball, but his talent is absurd. He's a great scorer and has passing skills that are well above average.
Playmaker Rating: 39.82 (No. 8 out of 60)
57. New Jersey Nets: Eric Griffin
57 of 60School: Campbell
Position: Power forward
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'8", 190 pounds
2011-2012 Per-Game Stats: 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists
If you haven't seen this yet, just watch it.
Playmaker Rating: 29.85 (No. 41 out of 60)
58. Minnesota Timberwolves: JaMychal Green
58 of 60School: Alabama
Year: Senior
Position: PF
Vitals: 6'8", 240 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists
A defensively oriented power forward, JaMychal Green started to develop a reliable jumper this year as he improved his post moves.
The big man still has a significant amount of work left to do, though.
Playmaker Rating: 27.70 (No. 49 out of 60)
59. San Antonio Spurs: Kim English
59 of 60School: Missouri
Position: SG
Year: Senior
Vitals: 6'6", 200 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists
Remember what I was saying about the Missouri offense boosting numbers?
It applies here again as Kim English is a great spot-up shooter but suffers a lot when he's asked to create his own shot.
Playmaker Rating: 38.85 (No. 12 out of 60)
60. Los Angeles Lakers: Robbie Hummel
60 of 60School: Purdue
Year: Senior
Position: PF
Vitals: 6'8", 215 pounds
2011-12 Per-Game Stats: 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists
A great, hard-working kid with the offensive game to score from anywhere and everywhere on the court, Robbie Hummel will probably go undrafted, but the No. 60 pick is a crapshoot at best.
That's why I've got him going here. He deserves every reward he can get for his injury-plagued collegiate career and unrelenting good attitude.
Playmaker Rating: 35.77 (No. 18 out of 60)
