Mayweather vs Cotto Results: Money's Win Proves He Would Defeat Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather did more than just beat Miguel Cotto by a unanimous decision on Saturday night at the MGM Grand—he made his greatest statement that he would defeat Manny Pacquiao so far.
Hopefully, at some point, we won't have to speculate on the outcome of this would be super-fight because they will answer that question in the ring.
Unfortunately, they don't appear any closer to making this happen, but we can hope—hope that the huge payday is too big for them to keep turning their back's on.
In the meantime, we are left to speculate, and Money's latest statement was his greatest yet. He would beat Manny Pacquiao.
Boxing is all about styles, and in Cotto, Floyd faced someone with a similar style to Pacquiao.
This is not to compare their greatness as fighters, simply their styles. They both are heavy-handed punchers that would prefer to brawl it out and go toe-to-toe then to dance around and pick their spots.
Cotto managed to work his way in on Money with this style, and he even managed to bloody Floyd's nose, but Floyd rolled off almost every punch with his shoulders.
Cotto had some decent success with his jab landing over Money's right glove, and there is no doubt that Pacquiao would go for that opening with his amazing jab, but that won't be enough to win him the fight.
While deflecting most of the blows, Floyd was able to pick his own spots. This led to some bruising uppercuts and hooks.
He would be able to do the same thing to Manny. And that goes right at Pac-Man's biggest weakness. He is vulnerable to counter punches. Just ask his trainer, Freddie Roach. Kevin Lole, of Yahoo Sports, offered up this quote from Roach following his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.
"Counter punchers give us problems. We need to get to work on how to deal with counter punchers better.
"
Marquez is a great counter puncher, but he has nothing on Money. Floyd proved that again against Cotto. His hands were as fast as ever, and he was packing nice power on those blows to daze the hard-headed Cotto.
Money wouldn't be able to knockout Pac-Man, but he would be able to keep him off balance, pick his spots and destroy him on points.
