World Football Gossip Roundup: Kagawa, Gaitan, Drogba, Coaching Carousel

Michael CummingsJun 7, 2018

Sunday's edition of the B/R World Football Gossip Roundup concerns itself with all the wheelings and dealings both on and off the pitch.

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on new signings, and Manchester City might be close to selling a player for once.

Meanwhile, though, the coaching carousel has already started to spin. That means managers around the world will be playing musical chairs for the same few precious jobs.

Want to know who's going where? Keep reading to find out.

Manchester United Deals

1 of 7

There's plenty of news surrounding Manchester United this weekend.

First, the move for Borussia Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa is reportedly done, per InsideFutbol:

"

"On 12th May I will play my last game with Borussia Dortmund," Kagawa reportedly told TV Osaka. "Then I'll start a new chapter with Manchester United."

"

Kagawa, 23, has a contract with Dortmund through 2013.

Elsewhere, United are reportedly favored to sign Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica.

That's according to Metro, which quotes the player's agent:

"

Jose Ibarren said: "Nicolas likes Manchester United a lot. He would like to play for Manchester United. If there is an offer for him, Nicolas would be happy to listen and negotiate."

"

Finally, despite all that, Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly said that Manchester City have ruined the transfer market for everyone else.

Make of that what you will.

Emmanuel Adebayor to PSG?

2 of 7

Speaking of Manchester City, the Blues are expected to sell on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor this summer.

According to The Daily Star, PSG are interested.

"

The wealthy French club are prepared to meet his £170,000-a-week wages – but only if City will accept a bid of £12million.

City paid more than double that for Adebayor, who has spent the season on loan at Tottenhan.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would like the former Arsenal front man on a permanent basis. But it is thought the White Hart Lane club can’t afford the total package.

"

Juventus and AC Milan are also named as potential suitors.

Steve Kean Won't Go

3 of 7

As the season ends, managers across the world are weighing their options for next season.

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean is reportedly going nowhere.

That's according to Steve Kean, mind you.

"

“I don’t expect to go down but if we do I definitely want to be here and I expect to be here. The target for us is to make sure we’re in the division we want to be in which is the top division."

"

Time to revise expectations, dude. Your team is going to be relegated.

Andriy Shevchenko Backs Massimiliano Allegri

4 of 7

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri finds himself under pressure as the Rossoneri trail Juventus heading into the end of the season.

But former Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko has reportedly backed Allegri to keep his job.

From Goal.com:

"

The Rossoneri currently trail Serie A leaders Juventus by a point with just two rounds remaining and it has been reported that their 44-year-old coach will be sacked if the Scudetto is not retained.

However, regardless of the outcome of the title race, Shevchenko believes that Allegri has done a good job again this season, particularly in light of his old side's well-documented injury problems.

"With him, Milan have started to play differently and, in my opinion, better," the former Rossoneri striker told the Corriere dello Sport.

"He's a very pragmatic coach, has a great determination and never gives up. In these two years he has been able to handle the injury situation very well."

"

Milan, who trail Juventus by one point with two matches left, play rivals Inter on Sunday.

Mauricio Pellegrino for Valencia?

5 of 7

In Spain, former Valencia defender Mauricio Pellegrino is reportedly set to become the team's next manager.

Pellegrino, 40, would replace Unai Emery—though Emery has not yet been released by Valencia.

"

According to Cadena COPE, an agreement is already in place with [Pellegrino], who spent six years at Mestalla as a player between 1999 and 2005.

Emery's departure has not yet been confirmed and even though the 40-year-old coach has qualified Valencia for next season's Champions League, he has come in for stern criticism for Los Che's inconsistent form this season, particularly in the wake of their Europa League semi-final exit at the hands of Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

"

Chris Hughton for West Brom?

6 of 7

Back in England, Chris Hughton is reportedly ready to take over at West Brom.

West Brom's Roy Hodgson was recently named England's new manager, though he will stay with West Brom through the end of the season.

Hughton currently manages Birmingham but will leave the club even if they secure promotion to the Premier League through the League Championship playoffs.

Didier Drogba to Stay?

7 of 7

Finally, Chelsea and Ivorian striker Didier Drogba are reportedly in talks for a new contract.

Drogba, 34, scored Chelsea's second goal in their 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday in the FA Cup final.

From talkSPORT:

"

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay has insisted that the club are still in talks with Didier Drogba about a new contract.

"
"
"
"And Gourlay is adamant they are looking to extend the player’s time at Stamford Bridge."
"

“We’re always talking to Didier [about a new deal], Didier loves Chelsea and we love Didier,” he said. “We will continue to have the conversations and we’ll see where that goes and as soon as we’ve got anything to say we’ll let you know."

"

We'll be waiting with baited breath.
