Bodemeister: Why Bob Baffert's Horse Will Win 2012 Kentucky Derby
Legendary trainer Bob Baffert has enjoyed remarkable success throughout his career, especially at the Kentucky Derby. He will earn a fourth crown at Churchill Downs when Bodemeister blows away the field on Saturday.
Bodemeister is considered by many as the favorite to win this year's race at the Derby. That's with good reason, considering the great success the horse has enjoyed over the past year.
This horse doesn't have a lot of racing experience, but in four career races, Bodemeister has never finished worst than second. There were two wins and two second-place finishes in 2012 alone.
Bodemeister has the speed to pull away both early and at the end of the race on Saturday, as well as the stamina to keep up if a horse makes a surprise jump to the front of the pack.
Recent history is not in Bodemeister's favor—many of the top favorites at the Derby have struggled in recent years—but with the Triple Crown drought growing each year, it would be nice to see a horse capable of winning the historic achievement dominate at Churchill Downs.
Via the L.A. Times:
"If Bodemeister wins, the Triple Crown excitement will heighten as it always does when there isn't a major upset. And Baffert will have his fourth Kentucky Derby winner. The others, Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998) and War Emblem (2002), all went on to win the Preakness. But all lost in the Belmont.
"
Baffert knows that Bodemeister is a special horse, and one capable of doing great things. With the combination of his expert training and the horse's impressive skills, there's no reason why Bodemeister shouldn't dominate this weekend and begin an epic chase toward the Triple Crown.
