NBA Draft 2012: Should the Portland Trailblazers Select Jeremy Lamb?

Mike UlstadJun 7, 2018

Jeremy Lamb is a player who has been hyped up throughout his college career and most of the time, he has lived up to that hype. He is a long wing with a gifted scoring and shooting ability that seems perfect for the NBA. His lack of bulk, however, has been the major detriment to his draft stock and some mock drafts have him sliding down and out of the lottery.

The question here, though, is should the Blazers select Lamb?

Why they should: Lamb is a pure scorer with immense defensive potential because of his athletic ability. Bradley Beal may be gone by pick number six, which would leave Lamb as easily the next best available scoring guard. If Portland is truly looking to fill the scoring void in their guard position, Lamb would be the perfect player to jump in and do it.

Lamb's length on the floor can also create defensive mismatches at any level (wingspan of 7'1" on a 6'5" body). He is a smart player who knows the game very well, which is always helpful at the next level.

Why they shouldn't: Lamb's major weakness is obvious when you look at him. He is extremely skinny which could pose problems when he takes the ball to the hoop in the NBA. If Portland were to take him, he would need to bulk up a lot.

In addition to this, it could be argued that Portland would be wasting a high draft pick on a guy playing a position that isn't desperately needed. Portland's biggest needs are at point guard and center, and Lamb is not either of those by a long shot.

So now its your turn to weigh in. Should the Portland Trailblazers select Jeremy Lamb with their top pick? Or should Blazer management wait it out to see if he falls to their second pick? Should they even pick him at all?
