WWE Rumors: John Cena, Brock Lesnar, CM Punk and Thursday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

Even though it is something we will get to in the rumors, I have to say that I love when Vince McMahon and WWE try to rationalize a lot of the things they do. It is clear that this man has had his head buried in the sand for so long that he can't see anything right in front of him.

But there is no one to tell him what he is doing wrong because, as CM Punk said last year, he is surrounded by so many "Yes Men" that he is going to be told exactly what he wants to hear. Perhaps that's because they know if they go against the almighty, they will be looking for work.

We will have the latest on WWE's rationalization of something that everyone knows was a mistake and so much more going on behind the scenes.

WWE TRIES TO RATIONALIZE LESNAR-CENA FINISH

In trying to cool the fury that has emerged since John Cena just beat Brock Lesnar in the middle of the ring, the company is saying that because this was just a one-off feud they had to get their guy over. Lesnar's flip-flop attitude also reportedly played a role in the thinking.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How did Vince McMahon ever make money?

Our Take: There was a time, long ago, when he knew what he was doing. Sadly, that is no longer the case. If you are worried about Lesnar being so unstable he could leave at any moment, don't hire him back.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Faulty Excuses

In addition to that lame rationale, apparently WWE looks at it like this: All the money being spent on Lesnar is used to get WWE guys over, not making Lesnar look strong or tell stories that would actually draw big money.

CM PUNK WAS SUPPOSED TO GET HIS LONG-AWAITED WWE MOVIE

Last summer, when all that business with CM Punk leaving WWE was going down, he made some jokes about wanting to star in CM Punk: The Movie. While the script is still being worked on for that, reportedly he was the choice to star in The Marine 3 before The Miz got the role.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How could WWE pull Punk from that?

Our Take: If Punk wasn't so important to RAW, he would be able to film the movie. Since no one really notices if Miz is on television or not, he became expendable. Perhaps he will actually get to look strong and beat up some people in the movie, because it isn't happening in WWE.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Movie Stars

I want to meet the person who thought that two sequels to The Marine would be a good, profitable idea for WWE. The fact that Miz will be in the lead role only makes the skepticism around this movie increase that much more.

MICHAEL COLE WILL NO LONGER ANNOY YOU...AS MUCH

Watching RAW these past few weeks, you can't help but notice a change in the attitude and presentation of Michael Cole. It turns out WWE is trying to tone down the annoying announcer gimmick, or at least the heel persona, to make him more tolerable.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will WWE's plan work?

Our Take: To some extent it already has. Cole will never be a very good wrestling announcer, but as long as he isn't taking away from the product being presented then you are at least able to watch the show without wanting to throw the remote.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Vintage Announcers

The fact that there has to be a conversation about the announcing situation in WWE should tell you just how dysfunctional things with the creative team really are. All the announcer is supposed to do is call the action, nothing more, nothing less. Sadly, this isn't your grandfather's WWE.

CHARLIE HAAS KNOWS HOW TO FIX "SUCKY" WWE TAG DIVISION

Charlie Haas never got the credit he deserved as a worker in WWE, but he, along with Shelton Benjamin, have established themselves as one of the premier tag teams in the world in Ring of Honor. He was interviewed recently and talked about the sad state of the tag division in WWE. He wants to fix it by putting Arn Anderson in charge of the whole thing.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Does WWE want a tag division?

Our Take: Judging by the way its tag teams get treated, Vince McMahon might as well try to sell the belts on EBAY to see what he can get for them because he has lost all interest in developing tag teams.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Bad Bosses

It is amazing to look back at how many stars cut their teeth in tag teams and to think what WWE could do with some younger stars who are green by putting them in a team together. But no, we have to bury tag teams whenever we get a chance because it's just so fun.
