Latest Buzz on Offseason Signings for Hottest Undrafted Free Agents

John RozumMay 2, 2012

With all of the hype surrounding the 2012 NFL draft, the after party was just as intense. And by after party, we're of course referring to the undrafted free agent signing period which immediately takes place in the post-draft world.

Here you can view the NFL's undrafted free agent signings, courtesy of NFL.com, and see how your team panned out. Additionally, let's take a look at the best signings as well as the best available undrafted agents.

Chris Polk: RB, Washington (Philadelphia Eagles)

The Eagles needed a reliable No. 2 running back, and Chris Polk was as consistent of a performer between the tackles as anyone in college football during his career. Possessing great size, improving speed and impressive vision, Polk will make an immediate impact for the Eagles.

With LeSean McCoy as the No. 1 back, Polk can enter the game in short-yard situations to present a dynamic two-back set. His ability to slam the trenches bodes well for play-action and derives attention from McCoy so Philadelphia is more balanced with every formation.

Leonard Johnson: CB, Iowa State (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

One of the most underrated corners in college football, Iowa State's Leonard Johnson is reliable in run support and has a knack for consistently breaking up plays all over the field.

Johnson is a great fit for Tampa's young defense as other stud draft picks in Mark Barron, Lavonte David and Keith Tandy will complement him well. His physical play in man and press coverage will obviously improve the secondary against the pass, but also allow the front seven more time to get a pass rush.

Eric Page: WR, Toledo (Denver Broncos)

One player not yet listed on the undrafted free agent signings was Toledo's Eric Page. According to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, Page joined the Broncos before Sunday rolled around. This is a perfect addition to the Denver offense, because Page has the potential to immediately contribute at the slot position.

While at Toledo, Page gained over 1,100 receiving yards and caught at least 80 passes in each of his three seasons. Plus, the man is a complete returner that can pull double-duty on punts and kickoffs to help the offense with field position.

Aaron Henry: Safety, Wisconsin (Oakland Raiders)

Oakland needs all the help it can get on defense, as the Raiders ranked No. 27 against the rush and pass in 2011. And in not having a draft pick until Round 3, Oakland got a big add in Wisconsin safety Aaron Henry after the event.

Henry is supremely athletic for his size and has the field awareness to quickly react in Cover 1 or 3. Complementing Tyvon Branch in the secondary, Henry will have plenty of opportunities to make plays over the middle. If anything, expect the Raiders to improve at forcing turnovers and at stopping the run with Branch rolling down into the box for blitzing 'backers.

Dan Persa: QB, Northwestern

Durability concerns come with Dan Persa for any team of interest in the Northwestern quarterback, but according to Tom Housenick of The Morning Call, Persa is getting a mini-cap look from Tampa Bay.

Nonetheless, Persa produced well for the Wildcats with over 4,900 yards and 32 touchdowns to just 11 picks between 2010 and 2011.

One reason why Persa deserves a look is his impressive 73.45 completion percentage in the past two years. Albeit undersized, Persa has the mobility and marksmanship to keep plays alive and dice up defenses in the intermediate passing game.

Darius Nall: DE, Central Florida

Certainly not the most overly dominant defender at his position, but UCF's Darius Nall has as much mental toughness as anyone in the game. According to Brendan Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel, Nall is a cancer survivor who is also getting a chance with the Raiders:

"

Darius Nall, who is going to try out for the Oakland Raiders. Nall recently overcame his second bout with cancer in four years, receiving chemotherapy in January and being deemed cancer-free by UCF’s pro day in late March.

"

During his career, Nall was a backfield menace despite not accumulating a lot of tackles. In his final three seasons for the Knights, Nall only amassed 67 tackles but did get 19 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hurries and 16 sacks.

In the NFL, Nall can contribute as a strict passing situation rusher off the edge and/or loop inside to beat guards one-on-one. Nall does have good size to fit a 4-3 end or 3-4 outside linebacker, so it'll be interesting to see where he fits in.

Kyle Efaw: TE, Boise State

One of Kellen Moore's favorite targets at Boise State, tight end Kyle Efaw was significantly overshadowed by the Broncos' other offensive weapons such as running back Doug Martin and receiver Tyler Shoemaker in 2011.

And, according to Timothy Baker of the Boise Sports Examiner, Efaw remains unsigned.

Still, Efaw had a consistent career with 103 receptions for 1,269 yards and 13 touchdowns. A big target inside the red zone, Efaw possesses the athleticism to make plays over the middle and is a reliable run-blocker in the trenches.
