World Football Gossip Roundup: Barcelona Spree, Raul, Robben, Wiese, Fellaini
Roy Hodgson is the new manager of England, and no matter where you look, you'll find someone's reaction somewhere on the Internet.
Whatever. Here at the B/R World Football Gossip Roundup, we're over it. And we're moving on.
There's a spending spree being planned in Catalonia. There's a contract dispute brewing in Bavaria.
And that's just the start. Read on for more.
Barcelona's €100 Million Spree?
1 of 7Incoming Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova could have €100 million for new players this summer.
That's according to a report from Sport cited by Goal.com:
"According to Sport, the Blaugrana will receive only €30m of the usual €50m set aside in their annual budget for strengthening the squad. However, the paper claims that club officials are confident of generating an additional €30m from player sales.
Right-back Dani Alves has already been linked with a big-money move to wealthy Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala and it is believed that the club are willing to cash in on the player. Barca are also believed to be looking to offload midfielder Seydou Keita this summer.
"
The rest of the difference would be made up by "contractual savings" and the departure of manager Pep Guardiola.
Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Llorente and Valencia's Jordi Alba are listed as potential transfer targets.
Raul to England?
2 of 7Spanish legend Raul is set to leave Schalke this summer, and Newcastle and Fulham are reportedly interested in his services.
From talkSPORT:
"The player says he will not move to a major European league and Qatar appears to be his likely destination but that has not prevented Newcastle and Fulham from trying their luck.
According to reports in Spain, the Premier League pair have approached Raul's representatives regarding a switch to England and hope the lure of a crack at the Premier League would appeal to him.
"
Raul, 34, is the all-time leading scorer for Real Madrid and the UEFA Champions League. He has scored 40 goals in 98 games with Schalke over the last two seasons.
Arjen Robben Leaving Bayern Munich?
3 of 7Contract drama surrounds Bayern Munich's Dutch superstar Arjen Robben.
Robben's current contract expires in 2013, and speculation has arisen over his future after reports of a halftime bust-up with teammate Franck Ribery during the Champions League semifinal first leg in Munich.
But high-ranking Bayern official and former Germany international striker Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims Robben is close to signing a new deal. From Goal.com:
""I guarantee that no stars will leave," he told Bild. "The agreement [with Robben] is as good as signed. Arjen will stay at Bayern in the long-term."
"
But talkSPORT reports Robben will turn down Bayern Munich.
"It has been revealed that Bayern, who have been keen to downplay the incident, arranged a lunch between the pair the day after the clash in a bid to patch things up.
But Robben is reportedly unhappy in the way that Bayern have kept quiet, instead of supporting him - and was furious when they fined Ribery just £40,000 for the offence, a fraction of his weekly wage.
So unhappy were the midfielder and his agent, who is also his father, that they have decided to snub the new contract - and could begin to look elsewhere.
"
Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are listed as potential suitors. Robben, 28, played for Chelsea from 2004-07.
Eden Hazard the Spectator
4 of 7The Eden Hazard saga may have just become more interesting.
On the other hand, this could be absolutely nothing.
According to the Daily Mirror, Hazard attended Monday's Manchester Derby, won 1-0 by Manchester City over Manchester United.
So does this mean Hazard wants a move to either City or United?
Or does it mean he just wanted to watch a big game?
Real Madrid Want Tim Wiese?
5 of 7German international goalkeeper Tim Wiese will be a free agent this summer after his contract with Werder Bremen expires.
Wiese, 30, reportedly said Real Madrid want to sign him.
From Goal.com:
"Hoffenheim boss Markus Babbel claimed last week that his club are competing with Madrid, Inter and AC Milan for Wiese's services and the player has now admitted that Los Blancos are keen to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
"
"If such a story comes into circulation, there is usually some truth in it," the 30-year-old told Syke. "There is contact between Real and my agent."
The choices are Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and…Hoffenheim?
Clearly, Hoffenheim are the only choice here.
Pick a Name, Any Name
6 of 7The Daily Star today delivers big names and wild speculation in relation to Manchester United.
United, according to the tabloid, are interested in Wesley Sneijder (him again?), Luka Modric (him again too?), Eden Hazard (yawn) and Gerard Pique (wow).
"Other possible midfield recruits include Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa, 23, and Gylfi Sigurdsson, 22, who is on loan at Swansea from Hoffenheim, while Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, 24, impressed against United in the Champions League.
Just to rub salt into Fergie’s wounds, French star Paul Pogba, 19, looks set to reject a new contract at Old Trafford in favour of a £40,000-a-week offer from Juventus.
"
Marouane Fellaini to Chelsea?
7 of 7Finally, the Daily Mirror brings us word of a £22 million Chelsea bid for Everton's Marouane Fellaini.
"Roman Abramovich is expected to sweep the changes at Stamford Bridge in an attempt to overhaul his ageing squad...
The Belgian midfielder joined Everton in 2008 and has impressed with his courageous attitude and ability to score goals from midfield.
Everton would be keen to keep the 24-year-old but an offer of over £20million would be difficult to refuse given the club's financial constraints.
