2012 NBA Mock Draft: Anthony Davis and Prospects with Superstar Potential
The depth and talent in the 2012 NBA draft class is far better than in last season's class. That means that there will be several players in this class who will turn into superstar players in the near future.
Let's look at a fresh first-round NBA mock draft.
1. Charlotte Bobcats: Anthony Davis, Kentucky
Anthony Davis is the best prospect in this class and has the combination of great potential and NBA-ready talent.
His ability to block shots and dominate defensively with his superior athleticism is very impressive, and even though his offensive game is still developing, he won't have too much trouble scoring in the pros.
2. Washington Wizards: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky
Kidd-Gilchrist is going to be a superstar player with his offensive ability and unselfish attitude. He's a great kid who isn't afraid to work hard to improve his game.
He can not only shoot well from the outside, but he attacks the rim with determination and can get his shot off against bigger and stronger defenders.
He's everything the Wizards need.
3. New Orleans Hornets: Andre Drummond, Connecticut
There's no reason for the Hornets to pass on Drummond when their No. 1 need in the draft and in free agency is at center.
4. Sacramento Kings: Thomas Robinson, Kansas
Thomas Robinson is a player who will rebound very well in the NBA right away as well as score inside with his strong low-post scoring skills.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers: Harrison Barnes, North Carolina
Barnes' all-around ability would satisfy many of the Cavaliers' needs for next season, two being scoring and versatility.
6. Toronto Raptors: Brad Beal, Florida
Brad Beal is a consistent offensive player who will drastically improve a struggling Toronto Raptors offense.
7. Portland Trail Blazers (via New Jersey): Jeremy Lamb, Connecticut
Lamb would give the Blazers the point guard of the future they desperately need.
8. Detroit Pistons: John Henson, North Carolina
The Pistons need someone who can be feared in the paint on defense and block shots. Henson fits both of those roles.
9. Utah Jazz (via Golden State): Damian Lillard, Weber State
The Jazz have an abundance of forwards, so addressing the depth at point guard would be a smart strategy.
10. New Orleans Hornets (via Minnesota): Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
If the Hornets don't take Drummond in the top five, expect them to look at Jared Sullinger for power forward help.
11. Portland Trail Blazers: Austin Rivers, Duke
Austin Rivers would be a strong shooting guard in the NBA and could replace Brandon Roy as the next great Blazers scorer.
12. Milwaukee Bucks: Meyers Leonard, Illinois
Leonard has a lot of potential as a center who can be very dependable at both ends of the floor.
13. Phoenix Suns: Kendall Marshall, North Carolina
With Steve Nash's career with the Phoenix Suns likely coming to a close soon, Kendall Marshall would be a great point guard to replace the future Hall of Famer.
14. Utah Jazz: Perry Jones, Baylor
The Jazz don't need a big man, but the potential of Baylor star forward Perry Jones could be too great to ignore at pick No. 14.
Jones has an all-around offensive game that includes strong low-post scoring skills and a reliable outside shot.
15. Houston Rockets (via New York): Doron Lamb, Kentucky
Lamb will be a star NBA point guard with his ability to score by driving to the basket and his unselfish playmaking skills.
16. Philadelphia 76ers: Terrence Jones, Kentucky
Jones is a versatile player who can play three different positions and be effective offensively at each one.
17. New Jersey Nets (via Houston): Tony Wroten Jr., Washington
The Nets would be smart to draft Tony Wroten Jr. for point guard depth in case superstar Deron Williams leaves the team through free agency this summer.
18. Denver Nuggets: Tyler Zeller, North Carolina
The Nuggets need a young center who can excel at both ends of the floor and works hard, which is what Tyler Zeller will give them.
19. Houston Rockets (via Dallas): Terrence Ross, Washington
Ross is a strong defender who will give the Rockets some nice depth and scoring at the forward spot.
20. Atlanta Hawks: Moe Harkless, St. John’s
The Hawks don't have enough size and defense in the paint, so drafting a talented center needs to be a top priority for Atlanta in the draft.
21. Boston Celtics: Fab Melo, Syracuse
The Celtics have no young talent for the future at center and need to draft a big man with one or both of their first-round selections this year.
22. Orlando Magic: Marquis Teague, Kentucky
Teague is an offensively talented point guard who could become a better player than Magic guard Jameer Nelson in just a few years' time.
23. Memphis Grizzlies: Royce White, Iowa State
White would add some nice depth to a Grizzlies team that has battled injuries in the frontcourt over the past few seasons.
24. Boston Celtics (via Los Angeles Clippers): Arnett Moultrie, Mississippi State
Moultrie is an option for the Celtics as a center if the team doesn't take a big man with its earlier first-round pick.
25. Indiana Pacers: Dion Waiters, Syracuse
The Pacers need more scoring and defensive ability in the backcourt, which makes Syracuse's Dion Waiters a safe pick for Indiana.
26. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Los Angeles Lakers): Jeffery Taylor, Vanderbilt
Taylor would give the Cavaliers a strong defensive player at small forward, which is something they desperately need.
27. Golden State Warriors (via San Antonio): Kevin Jones, West Virginia
Jones is a power forward who is strong defensively and can also block shots consistently, which are two things the Warriors need in the frontcourt.
28. Miami Heat: William Buford, Ohio State
Buford's ability to shoot well from the outside and defend well would be a big boost for the Miami Heat.
29. Oklahoma City Thunder: Evan Fournier, France
The Thunder would be smart to add the scoring and playmaking ability of Evan Fournier, especially after Eric Maynor's knee injury.
30. Chicago Bulls: Festus Ezeli, Vanderbilt
Ezeli is a strong scorer who will add some much-needed offense to the Chicago Bulls bench.
