SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 121 Damontre Moore, Texas A&M DE
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on August 30 at the start of the college football regular season.
No. 121: Damontre Moore, No. 94, Defensive End, Texas A&M
2011 Stats: 72 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks
Strengths
Moore is one of the few stars on the Aggie defense. He's a relentless pass-rusher that has found a home in the opponent's backfield.
He led the Big 12 in tackles for loss last season with 17.5 and finished second in the conference with 8.5 sacks. At 6'4", 245 pounds, Moore is a monster that will become a star in the SEC.
Weaknesses
New defensive coordinator Mark Snyder is installing a 4-3 defense, which means that Moore will be moving from "joker" linebacker to defensive end.
Moore is a little undersized as a defensive end, so he will have to bulk up to become a force against the run. The transition may be an issue for Moore, but pure talent is not.
2012 Prediction
There will be some bumps in the road for Texas A&M due to the scheme change and the transition to the SEC. If Moore is able to pick up on his new position quickly, it will help that entire defense.
He's got the talent, and now he's got the stage. Moore will emerge as one of the stars of the SEC this season—even if Texas A&M's defense as a whole isn't impressive.
