Oregon Football: Two-Deep Post-Spring Depth Chart

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

Spring practice is officially over for the Oregon Ducks, as they have put an end to the spring game that took place this weekend.

While the spring is to see where this year's team is from a talent standpoint, it's also an opportunity for players to make a case for more playing time.

Was the quarterback battle settled? Is the secondary looking better? Did anybody emerge that could play a big factor in this year's championship?

With spring over, here's your 2012 Oregon Ducks post-spring depth chart.

Quarterback

1 of 22

Starter: Marcus Mariota

Backup: Bryan Bennett

Darron Thomas was supposed to be the starter heading into the year, but decided to take his talents to the NFL draft. These two quarterbacks will continue to battle it out throughout the fall, but if the season started today, it'd likely be the redshirt freshman getting the nod over the sophomore.

Mariota completed 18 of 26 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown in the spring game. He also rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns as well. Oregon may have a playmaker at quarterback as well—what a surprise.

Running Back

2 of 22

Starter: Kenjon Barner

Backup: De'Anthony Thomas

Oregon should be fine in the backfield, despite Heisman candidate LaMichael James now playing in the NFL. Barner has a similar game to James and has been very productive for the Ducks throughout his career. He's also taking on a leadership role.

Wide Receiver

3 of 22

Starter: Rahsaan Vaughn

Backup: B.J. Kelley

Vaughn played his first year for Oregon last year after transferring from a junior college. He finished the year with 14 catches for 184 yards. He has the size at 6'2" and the athletic ability to become a much bigger factor in this offense. He hopes to become one of the premier weapons this season.

Wide Receiver

4 of 22

Starter: Daryle Hawkins

Backup: Justin Hoffman

Hawkins came to Oregon to be a quarterback, but has switched recently to the wide receiver position. He's caught a total of nine passes and two touchdowns over his two-year career. Although he doesn't have much experience at the position, he has impressed the coaches early on.

"

“Everybody always wants to talk about the young guys,” offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich said via OregonLive.com, “but the two guys who had the most consistent, best spring were Daryle Hawkins and Blake Stanton.”

"

Wide Receiver

5 of 22

Starter: Josh Huff

Backup: Devon Blackmon

Huff really stepped up his sophomore season, hauling in 31 passes for over 400 yards and two touchdowns. An even bigger season will be expected from the junior wideout, due to the lack of experience many of the receivers on this team have.

Tight End

6 of 22

Starter: Colt Lyerla

Backup: Christian French

Lyerla was a freshman last season and saw a lot of playing time early on, catching seven passes. He has improved his game throughout the spring and is the projected starter heading into the fall.

“He's improving,” coach Chip Kelly said via CBS Sports. “He's playing with a lot more confidence.”

Left Tackle

7 of 22

Starter: Jake Fisher

Backup: Tyler Johnstone

With some of the losses along the offensive line, Fisher looks to fit in at left tackle. He played a little bit last year at right guard, but doesn't have much experience at the tackle position. Despite the transition, Fisher believes he can fit in well.

Left Guard

8 of 22

Starter: Carson York

Backup: Trevor Fox

York is a veteran left guard that has started pretty much every game for the last three seasons. He's coming off of knee surgery, but looks to be fine by the time the season starts.

“I’m doing really good. It’s nice to see improvements all the time,” York said via thestatesmanjournal.com. “I feel more confident every day.”

Center

9 of 22

Starter: Hroniss Grasu

Backup: Karrington Armstrong

Grasu did a great job s a redshirt freshman last season, starting 14 games last year. Expect to see him in the middle of the offensive line once again.

Right Guard

10 of 22

Starter: Ryan Clanton

Backup: Everett Benyard

Clanton is a versatile player, capable of playing both the tackle and guard positions. He was a reliable backup last season and should move into the starting rotation this year.

Right Tackle

11 of 22

Starter: Nick Cody

Backup: Andre Yruretagoyena

Cody started 13 games for the Ducks last season at the right tackle position. With some of the holes along this offensive line, having an experienced starter sure couldn't hurt. Expect to see him remain in this role.

Defensive End

12 of 22

Starter: Isaac Remington

Backup: Koa Ka'ai

Remington saw limited action last season starting three games. He still finished the year with 31 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has a high motor and should have another productive season for the Ducks on the defensive line.

Defensive Tackle

13 of 22

Starter: Wade Keliikipi

Backup: Ricky Heimuli

Keliikipi is a strong player that started 11 games at defensive tackle last year for the Ducks. He finished the year with 25 tackles and 1.5 sacks. With a year of experience under his belt, he should be ready to take that next step in his career.

Defensive Tackle

14 of 22

Starter: Taylor Hart

Backup: Jared Ebert

Hart started 14 games his sophomore season and was one of the more productive players on the defensive line last season. He finished the year with 44 tackles, three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention and should have his biggest season this year.

Defensive End

15 of 22

Starter: Dion Jordan

Backup: Tony Washington

Jordan was a tight end a couple years ago, but had great success on the defensive side of the ball last season, racking up 44 tackles and 7.5 sacks. Offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich is even comparing him to the Baltimore Ravens' Terrell Suggs.

Linebacker

16 of 22

Starter: Michael Clay

Backup: Derrick Malone

Clay was one of the more productive players on this defense a year ago. He finished second on the team with 102 tackles and added two interceptions and three sacks for good measure. I think it's safe to say he'll head into his senior season as a starter.

Linebacker

17 of 22

Starter: Boseko Lokombo

Backup: Keloni Kamalani

Lokombo will move into a starting role with the loss of Josh Kaddu. In a backup role last year, he showed some of his playmaking ability, intercepting two passes and running them both back for touchdowns. He also had 33 tackles and two sacks on top of that.

Linebacker

18 of 22

Starter: Kiko Alonso

Backup: Anthony Wallace

Alonso was the defensive MVP in the Rose Bowl victory last season over the Wisconsin Badgers, intercepting a pass and getting 2.5 tackles for loss. He's also maturing and looks to be a big part of this defense this season.

Cornerback

19 of 22

Starter: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Backup: Troy Hill

Ekpre-Olomu played in every game last year as a true freshman and for good reason. The kid has the potential to become one of the better corners in all of college football. He had 34 tackles last season and broke up eight passes. He'll become the full-time starter this season and isn't short on confidence.

“I think I can play man-on-man against anyone,” he said via the Eugene Daily News. “I think I can finish and make tackles, get to the ball, and hustle.”

Cornerback

20 of 22

Starter: Terrance Mitchell

Backup: Dior Mathis

Mitchell is another young, talented corner. He broke up 10 passes last season, intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble. He's a quick cornerback and has the ability to create a nice one-two punch on the opposite side of Ekpre-Olomu.

Strong Safety

21 of 22

Starter: John Boyett

Backup: James Scales

Boyett adds some experience and consistency to the defensive backfield. He was last year's leading tackler, finishing the year with 105 tackles and six passes broken up. This will be his third season as a starter and many believe he deserves that elite status as a safety.

Free Safety

22 of 22

Starter: Erick Dargan

Backup: Brian Jackson

Dargan is a ball hawk type and has the potential to be a game changer if he can just play with more consistency. He's still very young, and that's why this position is likely still up for grabs, but the sophomore has grown throughout the spring and should be the favorite heading into the fall.
