Russell Wilson: New Seattle QB Will Go from Sleeper to Starter
Russell Wilson gets knocked by NFL draft scouts because of his 5'11'' stature, but he will be a talented NFL starter despite the size concerns.
Wilson threw for 33 touchdowns and 3,000-plus yards in his only season at Wisconsin. He threw just four interceptions. He has underrated arm strength, precise accuracy and the ability to move the pocket with his feet. Quality decision-making and leadership may be his best qualities.
Wilson will not be the No. 1 quarterback on Seattle's depth chart. Matt Flynn will be their guy, but he is not invincible. He has three career starts, and his success is not set in stone.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
His short stature is definitely a concern, but it is nothing Wilson cannot overcome. This is why.
Undefinable Leadership
Wilson's leadership can be summed up by his co-captaincy at Wisconsin. Wilson was named the Badgers' starting quarterback and one of their four co-captains less than two months after joining the team.
Successful quarterbacks must have leadership qualities if they want to succeed in the NFL. Matching intangibles with talent is a redeeming quality for any NFL starter.
Wilson's ability to lead the Badgers from the beginning says a lot about his character. He gained the trust of his coaches and his teammates. He showcased this leadership all season and was two Hail Mary passes away from playing the Badgers into a national championship appearance.
Some things you cannot teach. Wilson's character is one of them.
Intelligence
Wilson did not become Wisconsin's starter just because of his talent and leadership. He learned a new system at an incredibly fast pace.
Wilson's intelligence shows on the field and off of it. He makes excellent passing decisions. He is not afraid to go through his progressions until he finds the perfect throwing window.
Arriving at a new campus after three years is not easy. Learning a new playbook and new player tendencies is even more difficult. This ability to adapt will benefit Wilson while he tackles the Seahawks' schemes.
Wilson has a good head on his shoulders. He does his homework and leads by example.
Underrated Passing Ability
Wilson's arm is showcased on any scouting film. He can make every throw on the field and is confident enough to do so.
Yes, Wilson is small. His ability to see over NFL lineman is a concern, but he played for Wisconsin. Have you seen the size of their lineman?
Wilson did not struggle to make throws over the Badger behemoths, and he will not struggle in the NFL. He throws excellent intermediate routes and can find receivers vertically as well.
Wilson's mobility makes his arm more dangerous. He ran a 4.55 40 time at the NFL Scouting Combine. His quick feet and vision allow him to see running lanes or move the pocket for an easier throw. Getting out of the pocket eliminates the need to see over the mammoth lineman in front of him, so that will translate to the next level.
Football fans can compare Wilson to Seneca Wallace all they want. Wilson's arm is better without a doubt.
