Hopkins vs Dawson Results: B-Hop Should Retire After Another Poor Fight
After being defeated by Chad Dawson and losing his light heavyweight title bout In Atlantic City on Saturday night, it's time that Bernard Hopkins retires and ends his brilliant career.
Dawson had more energy, was quicker, and was the better fighter in nearly every area during the two men's second fight in the last year.
At 47 years old, it's tough to see Hopkins fighting top opponents and doing well for much longer.
For someone with a career record of 52-6-2-2 and having defended the middleweight title many times, there's little more for Hopkins to achieve in his distinguished boxing career.
Hopkins doesn't have the strength and feet quickness that he used to, and against fighters like Dawson, it's going to be hard for Hopkins to come out on top.
When a controversial decision ended their October fight, anyone could have predicted that a rematch would occur.
However, since Dawson was the clear victor this time around, there's no need for a third bout between the two.
Via the New York Daily News:
"“I have to give him credit. He’s a hell of a fighter. He’s a future Hall of Famer. But he’s a dirty fighter,” Dawson said. “I’m the younger guy so I had to be the aggressor. With all the head butts I had to keep my composure. I did what I had to do. I got my belts back.”
"
Hopkins doesn't have the stamina he used to and it was known right from the start on Saturday night that Dawson was going to take over the fight.
Hopkins has had an amazing career, but there is no need to tarnish his legacy by fighting too long past his prime.
If he retires now, he can hold his head up high as one of the sport's all-time best.
