SEC Football Morning Coffee: NFL Draft Shows the Power of the SEC
Good morning everybody. The first round of the NFL draft has come and gone with several SEC players being selected to play at the next level. Here are a few links to get your day started.
The power of the SEC goes further than just winning titles. Nine SEC players were selected in the first round of Thursday night's NFL draft.
Headlining that group is former Alabama running back Trent Richardson. The Cleveland Browns traded up to get Richardson at the No. 3 spot.
Former Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown thinks Richardson is "ordinary," according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Former Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw and former Georgia offensive lineman Cordy Glenn were in attendance in New York, but not selected in the first round. Upshaw's former teammate Dont'a Hightower, who was selected, thinks he will take the disappointment in stride.
South Carolina will find out its punishment from the NCAA regarding the Whitney Hotel scandal on Friday afternoon, according to Brett McMurphy of CBSSports.com.
SEC commissioner Mike Slive pushed for it four years ago, and now he can use that dirty word—"playoff," writes Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports.
The grade point average of the Tennessee football team is 2.08, but according to Austin Ward of the Knoxville News Sentinel, Derek Dooley has things under control.
