Toronto Blue Jays: Eric Thames Bounces Ball off Glove Giving Away a Home Run
Toronto Blue Jays left-fielder Eric Thames' heart sank in his chest as he chased down a fly ball and bounced the ball off of his glove and into the stands for a home run.
The play proved to be quite difficult due to the strong winds in Camden Park in yesterday's game. Thames headed toward the warning track to chase down the fly ball, and realized that the ball was drifting into the corner from the wind.
Thames said via MLB.com: "It all happened so fast. It hit my glove and then I heard the crowd, so I looked up and saw it was in the seats."

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
He took the loss quite hard. The fact the he scored the Blue Jays' only run in the game with a home run in the 2-1 loss didn't matter. His mistake deeply bothered him, and he knows that he has not been productive at the plate this year.
Thames certainly did make a mistake when he misjudged the ball, but he can't be held entirely responsible for the loss.
Henderson Alvarez had a strong and impressive outing on the mound giving up two runs on five hits and two walks. He pitched himself out of a difficult first inning when the first three batters got on base. The Orioles scored a run on a double play, but he got out of the inning without any further problems.
The Blue Jays failed Alvarez by not giving him any run support. They left seven runners on base throughout the game, and never had a runner in scoring position.
After the game, Alvarez said via MLB.com: "I feel like I did my part, it's a team game and whatever happens after that is out of my hands."
The Blue Jays had a four-game winning streak going into this game. Toronto has had a tough time against Baltimore so far this season, and are now 1-3 in 2012.
The season is still young. Thames will bounce back and get over this game. He will improve and produce at the plate. He just needs to regain his confidence.
Toronto's pitching is strong and solid. The Blue Jays have to come together and give their pitching staff better run support.
