Chelsea vs. Barcelona: What Barça Must Do to Win Game 2

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Barcelona has their work cut out for them if they hope to win game two of the Champions League semi-finals against Chelsea.

Barça wasn't overmatched in the first contest against The Blues, but a singularly precise shot by Didier Drogba gave Chelsea the lead in this tightly-contested series.

Here are three things Barcelona must do to win game two.

Cover Drogba

The key for Chelsea is Drogba's scoring. Barcelona need to do a better job of keeping him covered at all times, preferably by two or more defenders when he gets close to the goal.

He is a powerful scorer who can beat just about anyone one-on-one, and Barça will not move on to the finals if they can't keep him bottled up.

They need to be careful though, because Drogba is doing his best to induce penalties—as was evidenced by his four "injuries" in the last contest.

Stay Disciplined

Barcelona made too many mistakes in the first match.

Cesc Fàbregas was one of the worst offenders, allowing Chelsea to escape in the early going of the first match. He and Lionel Messi need to stay sharp and keep The Blues on their toes, because Chelsea is one of the more disciplined teams out there.

Barça's players need to keep their heads in the game 100 percent in the next one, or there won't be another one coming.

Stay Aggressive

Barcelona was a bit unlucky in the first match.

Alexis Sanchez came close to scoring early on but was denied when his shot hit the crossbar. Additionally, Cesc Fabregas came agonizingly close to hitting two other times, one of which was cleared off the line by Ashley Cole.

Chelsea is a disciplined team, and Barça need to continue to keep the pressure on them or they will be able to stay comfortable in their sets.

Nou Camp provides the perfect venue for Barça to keep the pressure on Chelsea, as it is a bigger pitch for Messi and his crew to work with.

If they continue to keep the pedal to the metal Barcelona should be able to overcome Chelsea in game two.
