Jermaine Taylor vs. Caleb Truax: 'Bad Intentions' Will Ace His Latest Test
Caleb Truax will not present much of an obstacle for Jermaine Taylor in this, the second fight on his comeback trail. Taylor has Truax drastically out-classed in hand-speed and experience.
Though Truax has some decent punching power, it is unlikely he'll have the opportunity to seriously test Taylor's questionable chin.
Expect to see Taylor dominate Truax with his still-formidable jab and accurate power punches.
Truax is 18-0 with 10 KOs. He is a solid counter-puncher, but Taylor represents a big step up in competition.
Truax hasn't fought anyone as accomplished as Taylor.
Here is Truax in action vs. Jonathan Reid:
In his last bout, Truax won a controversial split-decision over Andy Kolle. He did not look great in this fight as Kolle's size (6'1") and southpaw stance gave him a problem.
Taylor is also a 6'1" southpaw, with more quickness, power and experience than Kolle.
Thus, Truax should be taylor-made for Bad Intentions—no pun intended.
Taylor is the former middleweight champion. He owns two victories—though controversial—over Bernard Hopkins, and he has also bested Jeff Lacy, William Joppy, Cory Spinks and Raul Marquez.
His career took a negative turn in 2007 when he was viciously KO'd by Kelly Pavlik—after nearly finishing Pavlik in the second round.
Taylor subsequently lost a rematch with Pavlik in 2008. In my opinion, this is where Taylor's time as a legitimate middleweight contender ended.
There comes a point where the light goes out for some fighters. I believe the light went out after the second loss to Pavlik.
He lost two of his next three fights—before retiring for two years.
While Taylor can defeat opponents like Jessie Nicklow (his first opponent during his comeback) and Truax—he can't challenge the likes Sergio Martinez and Saul Alvarez.
Taylor should enjoy victory on Friday night, but not much after that—if he continues to raise the level of competition.
