Eden Hazard: 5 Reasons Why Lille Midfielder Would Fit with Spurs
Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard could join Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Here are five reasons why this would be a good move for both Hazard and Spurs.
Hazard, 21, has been one of Europe's hottest transfer prospects for more than a year. The Lille winger has been linked with some of the continent's biggest clubs, but has hinted that he favors a move to England.
Only time will tell if Hazard joins Spurs—or if he even leaves Lille at all—this summer.
For now, there's plenty of time for speculation.
He's Young, But…
1 of 5Still just 21, Hazard is a veteran footballer already.
In 2011, he won the French League and cup double with Lille and took home the UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year award.
In addition to domestic success, Hazard has played for Lille in the Champions League.
At the international level, he has already appeared 26 times.
All that experience has helped Hazard become a complete player.
As The Telegraph writes:
"What's most striking about the midfielder is that he seems to have mastered almost every aspect of the game.
As an 18-year-old in 2009 he scored this sublime goal against Lyon in French League Cup, showing in a matter of seconds his ability to find space instantly, beat a man, dribble with that Messiesque sense that suggests attempting to tackling would be futile, and unnervingly accurate shooting.
"
Even at 21, Hazard would bring more experience to Tottenham than a good deal of his future teammates.
He's Cocky
2 of 5While experiencing so much success at such a young age, Hazard has developed a reputation for cockiness.
There's nothing wrong with that, as long as he keeps it under control, but that hasn't always been the case.
That being said, as their late-season slide has suggested, Spurs could really use more confidence.
He Can Play Multiple Positions
3 of 5Hazard is, by trade, a left winger. While Spurs have an excellent left winger in Gareth Bale, that shouldn't stop them from pursuing Hazard.
Naturally right-footed, Hazard could easily play on the right wing. He could also fill the playmaker role just behind the strikers, replacing the inconsistent Rafael van der Vaart.
Of course, if Bale is sold, he could indeed play as a left winger.
The point is, Hazard could play in a few different places. What's more, he would give Spurs' midfield some much-needed depth (assuming they hold on to both Bale and Luka Modric this summer).
If none of those spots really work out, Hazard is young enough that Spurs could build around him.
The Players Want Him
4 of 5Well, at least Benoit Assou-Ekotto has indicated he'd like to see Hazard at White Hart Lane.
"He can succeed. He has the talent to," Assou-Ekotto told RMC (h/t Sports Mole). "If he can help us, why not? He is speaking French, it will be easier to communicate."
A native French-speaker would also fit in well at Arsenal. However, the Gunners don't spend the amount of money that Hazard would reportedly command in the transfer market.
So, the question is, do Spurs spend that much?
He Would Get Playing Time
5 of 5According to Thierry Henry (via talkSport), the most important consideration for the 21-year-old Hazard right now is playing time.
At Spurs, Hazard would consistently receive playing time, regardless of whether the manager next year is Harry Redknapp or anyone else. In fact, he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Could he count on the same at Chelsea or Manchester United?
