Liverpool FC: Is Kenny Dalglish's Crown Slipping?

Abdi MukhtarJun 7, 2018

LFC played Aston Villa just under two weeks ago, but I cannot get over the fact that Kenny Dalglish is totally clueless, and the position we’re in speaks for itself. Although he brought the Carling Cup home and got us into the FA Cup final, I am still not convinced.

He clearly does not realise that stepping down as the LFC manager will not only help them succeed, but also help them in their bid for rehabilitation of the entire team. By doing this, Kenny Dalglish will still be known as a Liverpudlian legend.

Please do not forget that the same should happen with the Principal Owner John W. Henry and Chairman Thomas Werner. Don’t forget the well-comprehended interest in this historic club which is further extended in protecting:

Without a shadow of doubt it is time to kindheartedly ask the ‘King’ to throw in the towel and work out as the Liverpool FC manager. A longer tenure won't serve anyone, particularly Liverpool FC.

Although Kenny is a true legend at the club and always will be, he just isn’t up to the modern game.

I feel that some players haven't been good enough. I feel we should not call for his head until at least next season, because if some players improve and he brings in some good buys over the summer (e.g., a winger, a centre-mid and a 20-plus-goals-per-season striker), then he we will soon be in favour at Anfield. He also needs to decide on a starting formation to build a team around, as Rafa did with his 4-2-3-1 formation that worked. It would help them gel-together better.

It could be said that owners are furious.

Furthermore, against Newcastle, Spearing, Bellamy and Carroll started. Against Aston Villa, Hendo, Downing and Kuyt started instead. This isn't the only time a group of players got dropped randomly and replaced by another group only for them to be dropped the next week.

It bothers me that ‘King Kenny’ hasn't yet found his best starting 11. However, I do think that it’s a bit unfair how we Liverpool fans deceive such a legend. Dalglish has won a trophy this season (the first time since '06). We are in the finals of the FA Cup—but others may say there are too many Liverpool fans who think that they have won the FA Cup already and only have to turn up against Chelsea in the final.

Liverpool's success of the 70s and 80s was built by focusing only on the next match.

I think that Chelsea's name is on the cup this year. Sorry, but they have developed a habit of snatching a winner late, something that Liverpool have forgotten how to do. This perspective has been building since January—in fact, the Carling Cup success has delayed the scrutiny.

Liverpool's performances all season have been like a kettle that won't boil. All the signs of progress without actually doing the business—too many home draws in which soft goals have been conceded, and too many chances squandered. Kenny is being disingenuous.

Liverpool's problem isn't that their play has been too attacking—it's that they haven't put teams under enough pressure.

There have been too many unforced errors and stray passes, not enough players in the opponent's box and not enough pressing play when possession has been lost. The tempo of play has been too slow, allowing opponents the luxury of getting organised to defend the final ball. None of the club's signings since Benitez has been good enough, except maybe Bellamy, whose injury prevents him contributing regularly. All of the recent recruits fall short in technique—basics like controlling a ball quickly, playing an early pass to catch defenders out of position or delivering a quality cross.

What do you think?
