Alabama BCS Trophy Shattered: Crimson Tide Won't Fret over $30K Crystal Ball
It was an A-Day game to remember for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but one of the biggest reasons is because the Waterford crystal BCS Trophy they won a few months ago was sent crashing to ground while on display.
Alex Scarborough of ESPN's TideNation writes:
"The Coaches' Trophy from this season's BCS national title was accidentally knocked off its podium and shattered by a player's father whose foot got caught on a rug that sits beneath the trophy display. The Waterford crystal trophy was on display in the Mal Moore Athletic Facility halls, home to coach Nick Saban's office and other athletic personnel.

Scarborough also reports that it was valued at $30,000.
The department is already in the process of getting a replacement, and the program certainly won't sweat the shattered ball—they're already focusing on winning another.
While $30,000 is nothing to sneeze at, the Tide brought in more than 78,000 people for the spring game and didn't charge a single one of them. A number of their SEC rivals charged $5 at the gate, including their in-state rivals at Auburn.
If 'Bama was truly worried about the cost of a trophy, they could still charge five times less at their gate and make the double the amount necessary.
But enough about that, the Crimson Tide have bigger things to worry about going into this summer.
Can they truly rely on A.J. McCarron to be more of a difference-maker this year? Is Eddie Lacy going to be healthy? And if not, is T.J. Yeldon the guy who is going to step in?
Can they effectively replace the defensive stars now getting ready to play on Sundays without missing a beat?
Can they keep up their ridiculously productive work on the recruiting trail?
The shattered BCS trophy has stolen the headlines, but A-Day brought about more important things to worry about in Tuscaloosa.
