UFC on Fuel 2 Predictions: Who Will Walk Away with the Fight Night Bonuses?
Just mere minutes away from the first UFC event in 42 days, anticipation is running high for UFC on Fuel 2.
With a solid main event between Alexander Gustafsson and Thiago Silva, the card features a plethora of fantastic fights, with quite a few UFC newcomers making their debuts and plenty of UFC veterans looking to solidify their place on the roster.
The Fight of the Night bonuses are always a big talking point among fighters and fans, and today will be no exception, as there are a ton of solid contenders for all three awards.
Just in time for the event, here are some last-minute predictions for the UFC on Fuel 2 Fight of the Night awards.
Fight of the Night: Dennis Siver vs. Diego Nunes
1 of 3As a former UFC lightweight contender, Dennis Siver’s featherweight debut is going to be watched closely by fans, who want to see if he's able to make a solid transition into the top of the 145 lb division.
His opponent, Diego Nunes, has been tearing up the featherweight division since he entered the UFC in January of last year, winning two of his last three fights, with big wins over Mike Brown and Manny Gamburyan.
Siver always comes to fight, and Nunes’ tendency to fight to a decision makes this fight seem like a lock to make it to the judges' scorecards, thus making this fight a more viable contender for the Fight of the Night award the longer it lasts.
Expect both guys to come out swinging early and often and put on a show for the fans in Sweden.
Knockout of the Night: Papy Abedi
2 of 3After losing his UFC debut to Thiago Alves at UFC 138, Papy Abedi has been given a much more manageable fight in his second UFC bout against James Head.
While Head is a solid fighter, he’s not anywhere near the level of striker that Alves is, and Abedi actually gave “Pitbull” some problems on the feet before Alves landed the big punch that rocked him in the first round.
With a smaller stage and an opponent that makes far more sense at this point in his UFC career, Abedi should have little trouble landing solid combinations and finishing the fight within the first two rounds by devastating knockout.
Submission of the Night: Brad Pickett
3 of 3With nine submission wins on his resume, Brad Pickett is one of the best fighters in the division at finishing a fight once it goes to the mat.
Pickett hasn’t locked in a submission win since WEC 45, where he tapped out Kyle Dietz with a Peruvian necktie, but his streak will end tonight when he forces Damacio Page to submit.
Page is a solid striker and is a tough guy to knockout, but his weakness has always been his submission defense, as he’s suffered five of his six career losses by tapout.
Look for Pickett to take it to the mat early and often. Once he keeps it there, it will be a matter of time before he walks away with a bonus check.
