2012 Samsung Mobile 500 Results: Reaction, Leaders and Post Race Analysis
The 2012 Samsung Mobile 500 gets underway on Saturday night on Fox at 7:47 p.m. ET, concluding NASCAR week at Texas Motor Speedway for the time being.
There's still plenty of action to look out for as the race creeps closer—including a pre-race Foreigner concert at 4:30 p.m.—but watch this space for updates on leaders, reaction and post-race analysis.
Update: Saturday, April 14 at 11:00 p.m. ET
Greg Biffle beat out Jimmie Johnson to take the checkered flag. Biffle had one of the strongest cars on the track all race, and he turned that into a victory.
It is the fifth top 10 of the year for Biffle and his first victory. The victory will allow Biffle to extend his series points lead.
This was a well-run and clean race. Almost all of the action came under the green. This left a lot of teams gambling on fuel at the end, but fuel concerns had nothing to do with Biffle taking the checkered.
Here is the unofficial top 10 for the race.
1. Greg Biffle
2. Jimmie Johnson
3. Mark Martin
4. Jeff Gordon
5. Matt Kenseth
6. Martin Truex Jr.
7. Kasey Kahne
8. Carl Edwards
9. Kevin Harvick
The favorite to win this year's race is Tony Stewart at 4-1, followed by Jimmie Johnson at 5-1, Carl Edwards at 6-1 and Kyle Busch at 6-1.
Last year's winner was Matt Kenseth, who beat runner-up Clint Bowyer by eight seconds and solidified a victory for Roush Fenway Racing after a two-year winless streak. Fellow Roush Fenway drivers Edwards and Greg Biffle finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Kenseth, who won the race in 2002, told FoxNews.com he feels confident at Texas Motor Speedway:
"It's a place I've been fortunate to have had a lot of great finishes at, and it's a track where Roush Fenway as an entire team seems to perform well at," Kenseth said.
Currently, Kenseth sits in fourth place in the point standings, trailing teammate and leader Biffle by 12 points.
Stewart, the favorite, won at Texas in November. He wrecked his primary car in Friday's practice session after making contact with the wall, but he is still feeling good about his chances, telling CBS Dallas-Fort Worth: "I just got loose and didn’t have enough race track to get it gathered up. We haven’t got a lot of laps on this [backup car], but I think we feel better with this one so far."
During Friday's qualifying session, Michael Waltrip Racing's Martin Truex Jr. claimed the pole after posting a lap at 190.369 mph.
