English Premier League: United Slip, City Close Gap, Arsenal Cement Third Place
Don't rip up that Manchester City betting slip just yet. We might just have a title race after all.
Wednesday night brought another twist to the English Premier League title race as Manchester United slumped to a defeat at relegation-threatened Wigan while Manchester City routed West Brom.
Shaun Maloney scored the only goal—though Wigan's Victor Moses also had a goal disallowed controversially—as United fell 1-0 at the DW Stadium. City, meanwhile, took out their post-Arsenal frustrations with four unanswered goals at home to West Brom.

The results mean City trail United by five points with five matches left. And it could mean Roberto Mancini wasn't as crazy as we all thought.
Maloney's top-corner finish was enough to hand Wigan the points, but the Latics were on the bad end of yet another controversial refereeing decision. Moses rose highest to head home in the 30th minute, but his effort was ruled when the linesman ruled interference on United keeper David de Gea.
Sergio Aguero opened the scoring for City in the sixth minute against West Brom, and the Blues took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Argentine made it 2-0 nine minutes after the break before Carlos Tevez—who was starting his first game since Sept. 21, 2011—scored City's third in the 61st minute.
It was Tevez's first goal in 11 months.
David Silva completed the rout three minutes later.
Arsenal, a further 10 points behind City, consolidated their hold on third place with a 3-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Wolves.
Robin van Persie opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the ninth minute after Sebastien Bassong was sent off for a last-man foul on Theo Walcott in the box.
Walcott and Van Persie connected again two minutes later, with the Dutchman assisting on Walcott's neat near-post finish. Yossi Benayoun completed the scoring in the 69th minute.
With the victory, Arsenal restored their five-point lead over Tottenham and Newcastle for third place and automatic Champions League qualification. Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the table, nine points adrift of safety.
