Golden State Warriors: 5 Reasons Warrior Fans Must Be Patient Until October

James PearsonJun 7, 2018

The NBA playoffs are looming right around the corner. For Golden State Warrior fans, that means only one thing: find another team to root for in April.

Warrior fan's hearts must be divided. However, this is familiar territory for fans of one of the worst franchise droughts in recent sports history. Come April, having the Warriors forfeit the rest of the games to receive their own pick come June would be better than having them win any of the remaining games. Depressing for a team playing in one of the largest markets in America with some of the most loyal fans any sports team has to offer.

On a positive note, we can all be thankful that there's no NBA lockout pending this summer. This means Mark Jackson and his team can get a full offseason to install his defensive mentality.

For now, the times are bleak. Warrior fans will just have to wait to start watching a winning team.

Here are five reasons why Warrior fans need to be a little more patience, although waiting shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary though, as fans have waited for what seems like decades for something to root for.

1. Klay Thompson Is Not Ready Yet

Given experience, Thompson looks like he's going to be the real deal in the NBA. Despite some poor shot selection (he is on the Warriors), he has all the tools needed for success, and for just being a rookie, he has shown flashes he's going to be a starter for a long, long time.

Given a full offseason, he can build strength and work on the parts of his game that need more definition. It would not surprise me if he followed in Monta Ellis' footsteps and won most improved player next year.

2. Andrew Bogut Is Hurt

Any time you trade your best player for someone who's sitting on the injured reserve, being patient goes without saying.

Jackson is implementing his defensive mentality, and Bogut is just what the doctor ordered. The style of basketball the Warriors want to play, acquiring Andrew Bogut was necessary.

Granted, the Warriors are going to lose in the “immediate satisfaction” category, but next season, he will give the Warriors the center they haven’t had since Nate Thurmond.

It’s been a while, huh?

3. Stephen Curry Is Not Right

Stephen Curry could end up being the biggest problem for the Warriors. Curry is their most talented player (when actually playing) and leader on the floor. With his history of injury problems, how can the Warriors count on him?

They need him in the lineup to be a winning team, but he can't do that riding the pine due to injury reasons. Hopefully, they're going to figure his problem out this summer for good.

Better shoes? More tape? How about getting some notes from the Phoenix Suns and figure out what they did for Grant Hill!

4. Mark Jackson Has Not Had the Time or Players

Jackson has not had the time to put his stamp on the team. Trading for Bogut will turn out to be the right move if Jackson indeed knows what he's doing.

At the start of the season, Jackson was trying to win playing defensive basketball with arguably the three worst defensive players in the NBA on his team. Soon, he will have a defensive stalwart in the middle to press fast forward on the team’s transformation.

Bogut alone is going to change the makeup of the Warriors' whole team. Other guys can get even more aggressive going after steals because now, they know the help in the middle of the key will be present.

With time and patience, Jackson should be able to turn the Warriors into a contender in the Western Conference.

5. What Other Choice Do Fans Have but to Be Patient?

5 of 5

Simply, what other choice do Warrior fans have?

Their best player is out. Their highest paid player is out. At this point in the season, it is actually better for the team to be losing games than winning them. For fans, October can’t get here soon enough.

With a full offseason, fitting new additions together, and hopefully a little lottery luck, things could turn around quickly for Golden State.

With a positive summer, October could signal the start of a new era in Oakland, and hopefully, a winning one.
