Norwich City: 10 Reasons to Dislike Ipswich Town and Everything They Stand for

James KentApr 9, 2012

Norwich City have been enjoying themselves in the Premier League this season, while Ipswich Town have been enjoying mid-table obscurity in the Championship. Although, the two clubs are not currently in the same division, it is, of course, fashionable to hate them.

There are plenty of reasons to do so, so let's have some fun at the expense of the Tractor Boys.

What a Waste of a Stadium

1 of 10

Ipswich have had a pathetic average attendance this season of just 18,320. Seriously? What a complete waste of their 30,000+ capacity stadium.

But then, who really wants to watch a team stranded in mid-table in the Championship league table.

They Always Seem to Think They Will Reach the PlayoFfs

2 of 10

After Ipswich Town make a poor start to the league season, they always still seem to think that they can reach the playoffs. However, they can never quite put that run together to secure that place.

The Tractor Boys are currently 15th in the Championship table. Last season, they had a similar season finishing in 13th. Despite those playoff ambitions, it appears they are a long way away from achieving a place in the top six.

Always Talking About Past Successes

3 of 10

The problem with Ipswich fans is that you can't have a good debate about who is the the better team. The Suffolk side are so pathetic that they haven't come close to being a successful team for many years. So they instead talk about the time they won the old Division One title in 1961-62, the FA Cup win 1978 or the time they won the UEFA Cup in 1981.

Norwich City can enjoy talking about being in the Premier League, but when the Ipswich fan responds with their league title win in 1962, you have to feel sorry for them.

Their Recent Performances in the East Anglian Derby Games Has Been Pathetic

When the two sides met last season in the Championship, it was quite embarrassing for Ipswich Town. Norwich City, at least, expected them to try in the games in the Championship.

If this was them trying then you have to worry for their future. Norwich City dispatched them 4-1 and 5-1 in two very one-sided encounters.

Ideas Like the Relegation Countdown Clock Make Them Look Silly

5 of 10

Ipswich Town were so confident of Norwich being relegated that they launched a relegation count down clock. Ideas like this are not so smart, it was fairly obvious that once this was launched Norwich would comfortably survive.

Norwich City currently have 43 points and look certain to survive in the Premier League.

Marcus Evans Situation Is a Bit of a Joke

6 of 10

I think all Norwich City supporters can remember when Marcus Evans took over Ipswich in 2007. It was a takeover that excited Ipswich fans. They proceeded to tell all Norwich fans that Evans would put millions into the club and they would soon be riding high in the Premier League, while Norwich were stranded in the Championship.

It is somewhat ironic that in 2012, it is Norwich that is flying high in the Premier League, and Ipswich that are stuck in mid-table in the Championship.

They Had Their Chance at the Big Time but Blew It!

7 of 10

Cast your mind back to the 2000/2001 season and Ipswich were a surprise package in the Premier League. They excelled all expectations and finished 5th in the table with 66 points.

However, they then recruited a load of dodgy foreign players the next season and were quickly relegated. This was their chance, but they completely messed it up!

The Whole Roy Keane Situation

8 of 10

I remember when Roy Keane was appointed as Ipswich Town manager. Ipswich fans thought that he would be amazing, and establish the club in the Premier League.

However, again, the plan backfired and Keane looked more likely to take Ipswich to League One, than the Premier League. At the time of his appointment, there were some Norwich fans that thought Keane would be a success.

But I think we can all be happy that Paul Lambert was the man that was appointed as Norwich City manager.

It's Fashionable to Hate Your Local Rivals

9 of 10

Norwich and Ipswich have spent a lot of time in the same division. For some time that was the Premier League then it was the Championship. Of course, there are other teams in the area like Colchester and Peterborough.

However, Norwich have not played that many games against them, and they have generally played in the lower leagues. Therefore, Ipswich has become the main rival. So, Norwich fans hate Ipswich, simply because they are Ipswich.

They Have a Decent Youth Setup

10 of 10

Norwich City fans are waiting to see a player coming through the youth system and becoming regular first-team player. Ipswich have a decent record of producing players.

Norwich possibility are a little bit envious of Ipswich's youth system (dare I say it!).

However, youth is something that the club will need if they want to continue to progress in the Premier League.
