Masters Results 2012: Augusta Disasters That Will Haunt Players All Year

Jesse ReedJun 2, 2018

The 2012 Masters wasn't a fun venue for some golfers, and their disastrous performances will haunt them the rest of the year.

Some players were destroyed early on, while others played well until they were crushed at the end.

Here are the three golfers who won't be able to recover from their horrific outings at Augusta National Golf Club.

Y.E. Yang

Yang is famous for beating Tiger Woods head-to-head on championship Sunday at the 2009 PGA Championship.

He hasn't won on the PGA tour since then. In fact, since that historic win, Yang has only won a single tournament: the 2010 Volvo China Open.

I had considered Yang to be a dark horse to win this year's Masters. Boy, was I wrong.

After floundering around for the first three days, Yang headed into the final round at two-over for the tournament. He then proceeded to completely bomb on Sunday, shooting nine over on the day.

Combined with the fact that Yang's best finish on tour all year was a tie for 17th place at the WGC Accenture Match Play event, it's safe to say that he isn't heading in the right direction.

Yang is going to disappear for a while.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez

I had actually thought Jiménez was going to challenge for this year's Green Jacket. After all, he's played Augusta tough before, posting three top-10 finishes.

He started out well, too. He was three under through the first two rounds before falling apart in the final two, posting consecutive rounds of five-over and nine-over.

Epic fail.

Jiménez isn't a regular on the PGA tour, and the Masters was only his third appearance all year. He won't likely play again in the States until the U.S. Open in June.

He is getting up there in age, at 48, and the Spaniard's best days are clearly behind him.

Rory Sabbatini

Sabbatini looked like someone to keep an eye on a few years ago, and at one point he was the No. 8-ranked player in the world.

His last victory on the PGA tour came in 2011 at the Honda Classic. Since then, Sabbatini has lost his game.

Sabbatini's 2012 campaign is full of disappointment. His best finish came in January when he finished tied for ninth place at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Since then, Sabbatini has missed five cuts and hasn't sniffed a leaderboard.

His 2012 Masters followed that pattern. He failed to make it to the weekend, posting a miserable second-round score of eight-over.

Sabbatini's career is on life support, and he needs a doctor—stat.
