Masters 2012 Leaderboard: Bo Van Pelt and The Fastest Risers on Sunday

Eric BallApr 8, 2012

Nothing like making up for a disappointing weekend at the biggest golf tournament of the year quite like nailing down an eight-under on Sunday.

That’s exactly what Bo Van Pelt did at Augusta National today.

The Richmond, Indiana native had a poor first three rounds, failing to reach 72 on all three days. It was a lackluster performance that found him at plus-seven entering the final round.

Then something finally clicked. He began to drill long putts and drive the ball with more power than previously shown throughout the week. He even hit a hole-in-one on the par-three 16. The result was a 64, good enough for eight strokes under par and a massive upgrade in the winnings department.

The 35-year-old went from 49th place all the way up to 15th, but still has no shot of taking home the green jacket at one-under. What’s important for Van Pelt is that the top 16 players automatically qualify for the event next year. Depending on how everything plays out on Sunday, Van Pelt has punched his ticket.

But he wasn’t the only one to play his best on Sunday. Here are two other pros that redeemed themselves after a disappointing first three rounds.

Luke Donald: -4

After almost getting disqualified in Round One over a scoring mix-up, Donald did not respond very well. He was at +7 entering Sunday before firing off a four-under 68 on Sunday.

The highlight of the day was an eagle on the par-five 15th hole which featured an incredible tee shot. Donald was a disappointment this weekend, but made up for it with his outstanding Sunday performance.

Keegan Bradley: -3

The Vermont native shot himself out of the tournament with a 77 on Friday, but made up for it a by registering a 69 on Sunday. He was drilling birdies with relative ease and was aided by some incredible putting.

Bradley may be nothing more than an afterthought when discussing the 2012 Masters, but there is no question he can build off his outstanding performance on Sunday.
