MLB Trade Deadline: 10 Big-Name Players That Could Move by July
It's clear that there are many teams that may have their hands full this coming offseason with one or more of their top talents set to enter free agency.
As a whole, the upcoming offseason promises to be another strong one with a number of veterans and young stars possibly changing scenery.
But not all of these moves will wait until the final out of the season has been recorded, as a number of these players could find themselves making a move towards new teams this summer when the trade deadline rolls around.
David Murphy
1 of 10The Texas Rangers will have a big decision to make this season and upcoming offseason as they determine how to address the contract situation with star outfielder Josh Hamilton.
They're being posed with another outfield shift, as the team has been asked by multiple teams about the availability of David Murphy.
Jake Peavy
2 of 10Jake Peavy's tenure in Chicago certainly hasn't gone as planned, as injury issues have kept him from putting up the numbers we all know he's capable of.
With a $22 million option for 2013, it's hard to believe Peavy will stick around beyond this season. The White Sox should start shopping him around in hopes of eventually finding a front-of-the-rotation starter to complement John Danks.
Carlos Lee
3 of 10Carlos Lee has just begun the final year of a $100 million deal with the Houston Astros, and while he certainly won't command the same salary when he hits free agency, he could still be a valuable pickup for a team in need of a veteran bat this summer
During the five years Lee has spent in the Lone Star state, he's averaged 26 home runs and 101 RBI per season while batting .286 with a .824 OPS
Kyle Lohse
4 of 10With a no-trade clause in tow, it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see Kyle Lohse stay in St. Louis throughout the season.
The team did, however, make it known this winter that they would like to either move him or Jake Westbrook, and if Lohse could warm up to the idea of a new home, there would likely be some takers for his services.
Ichiro Suzuki
5 of 10Having not known any other team in Major League Baseball, it's hard to imagine Ichiro Suzuki playing in any uniform other than that of the Seattle Mariners.
His numbers last season showed a slight decline from his past in Seattle, but he's still a great outfielder, remains a threat in the batter's box and should continue to produce, even if it's not in a Mariners uniform.
Some thought the team may work out an extension prior to the start of the season, but it now appears the two sides will be putting the talks on hold.
Andre Ethier
6 of 10The Los Angeles Dodgers temporarily dodged a bullet when they signed Andre Ethier to a one-year deal worth more than $10 million, avoiding arbitration.
They will need to make a decision this summer, however, as Ethier will be entering free agency and may not be an economically feasible option for the Dodgers moving forward.
You would have to think the Dodgers want to explore an extension for Ethier, but it appears the two sides have yet to get together for discussions.
Matt Garza
7 of 10Throughout much of the offseason, it seemed like there were relatively constant murmurs about Matt Garza being shipped out of Chicago prior to the start of the 2012 season.
They may have been quelled a bit, as Garza has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Cubs, but as Jon Morosi of Fox Sports pointed out, the team could still have a trade in place by the deadline.
Carl Pavano
8 of 10The Minnesota Twins will be doing everything in their power to contend once again in the AL Central, but if that doesn't come to fruition, there could be some household names leaving town.
One that you would have to give consideration to is Carl Pavano.
In the final year of his contract, Pavano is a veteran starter that has pitched in pressure situations and could be valuable to a different team's postseason push.
David Wright
9 of 10New York Mets third baseman David Wright would no doubt be one of the best free-agent targets next offseason should the team decide not to pick up his 2013 option.
As the New York Post points out, Wright will have plenty of reason to prove that he's worthy of an extension, and if they don't opt to extend his contract, the Atlanta Braves may give serious consideration to make a play on him as a potential replacement for Chipper Jones.
Wandy Rodriguez
10 of 10Having been a part of trade talks since last summer, it's almost surprising that Houston Astros ace Wandy Rodriguez has yet to find a new home.
With free-agent options getting the most attention this offseason, Rodriguez's best chance at moving is likely closer to the trade deadline—a real possibility, given the Astros' willingness to eat half of the $36 million left on his contract.
