Masters 2012: Breaking Down the Best and Worst of This Year's Major

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

We have seen some memorable performances from the 2012 Masters. Some of those performances, however, were memorable in a bad way.

Here are some of the best and worst moments from this years major.

Peter Hanson

Who would have thought Peter Hanson would be in the final pairing on Sunday, let alone leading the field?

Not too many.

Hanson shot a seven-under, the best of the tournament, on Saturday giving him the slight edge on Phil Mickelson.

We'll find out if he has another solid round left in the tank.

Phil Mickelson

The 2012 Masters are that much better when a well-known golfer is in the mix. Give me Tiger or give me Phil and the excitement is increased significantly.

Mickelson is one shot behind Hanson for the lead, and it’s great to see Mickelson back in the race for another green jacket.

Fred Couples

It looked like we could see the oldest player ever to win a major but the bottom fell out for Couples on Saturday shooting a three-over.

It was an exciting first two days as Couples shot par and then five under on Friday. He had people actually believing that a 52-year-old could win the Masters.

It was fun while it lasted.

Worst

Despite actually playing on the final day, Tiger’s performance was all but awful considering how well he has played in 2012.

He has struggled to hit the fairway with any consistency, and that has forced his putter to be strong. Not exactly the best recipe for success.

The 2012 Masters was a horrible showing for Woods.

Rory McIlroy

After shooting two rounds under par, McIlroy shot a five-over on Saturday to put him out of contention going into the final day.

What a storyline that would have been if McIlroy were in the hunt once again on the final day.
It was disappointing to see one of the young stars fail at Augusta.

Gary Woodland

After shooting 73 and 70 on Thursday and Friday, Woodland had the worst round of any player on Saturday, shooting an 85.

Woodland was actually in great position, but the 85 was flat-out embarrassing. His Saturday consisted of four double-bogeys and five bogeys.

Talk about a complete 180.
