Masters TV Schedule 2012: Compelling Pairings to Watch on Sunday
We've witnessed three compelling rounds at the 2012 Masters so far, and Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club always makes for must-see TV.
There are going to be some excellent pairings today, and you should try to schedule your day to make sure you can watch them.
Here are the three pairings I'm dying to watch navigate Augusta on day four.
Phil Mickelson (-8) and Peter Hanson (-9), 2:40 EDT
After an abysmal first round (plus two), Mickelson has turned things around in spectacular fashion. He shot four under in round two and then capped that off by shooting six under par in the third round.
Hanson, on the other hand, has been on a bit of a roller coaster. He had an amazing first round, carding a minus-four. He followed that up by stumbling on day two, shooting plus-two. Finally, Hanson wiped the floor at Augusta on day three, besting Mickelson by one stroke at minus-seven.
Mickelson should have the mental edge on Sunday. After all, he's won the Masters three times.
Conversely, Hanson has only won as a professional five times—all of them coming overseas—and has only contended for one major championship in his 14-year career, finishing the 2011 U.S. Open tied for seventh place.
The obvious assumption here is that Mickelson is going to run away from Hanson on the final day at Augusta.
One should never assume, though, and I look forward to see whether or not Hanson can rise above the pressure of the moment to stun the golfing world with an unlikely victory over one of golf's legends.
Bubba Watson (-6) and Louis Oosthuizen (-7), 2:30 EDT
Fair warning here: I am a big Watson fan. I had him as one of my top guys to win this week.
He will be joined on the course by Oosthuizen.
Both men have a tremendous opportunity to win today.
They have also both shot par or better all three days so far in this tournament, proving that they have the game and temperament to conquer one of the toughest courses on the planet under major championship conditions.
I am obviously hoping that Watson pulls it off, but he's never come close to finishing high at Augusta, but then again neither has Oosthuizen.
This will be a fun group to watch, and I can't wait to see which golfer comes out on top.
Padraig Harrington (-4) and Henrik Stenson (-4), 2:10 EDT
Both of these men are championship contenders.
Stenson has less experience and hasn't ever won a major, but he's been knocking at the door the last four years, earning five top 10s during that stretch.
Harrington is a constant presence at just about every major championship, winning three and finishing in the top 10 13 times in his career.
I love watching Paddie play. His goofy, often shy-looking demeanor is charming, and his ability to hit clutch shot after clutch shot when the pressure is on is impressive.
Stenson is a real dark horse to win, but if he can catch fire anything is possible.
Day four is sure to provide us with tons of exciting action and plenty of surprises.
