Timothy Bradley Could Snatch Victory over Pacquiao with Serious Headbutt Injury

Leo ReyesJun 7, 2018

Contrary to what fight fans are saying, pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao said it isn't true his upcoming fight with unbeaten Timothy Bradley is a risky, low-reward fight for him, as they face each other in the ring on June 9.

Pacquiao said Bradley, who is undefeated in 29 outings, is certainly not a guy to take loosely inside the ring. But Pacquiao admitted Bradley poses a problem because of his fighting style which could lead to an accidental or even intentional foul that could cause him the fight.

Indeed, Bradley poses a big problem for Pacquiao insofar as his fighting style is concerned. In many of his fights, Bradley had inflicted light-to-serious injuries on his past opponents with his headbutts.

Fight fans have theorized that he may be doing it intentionally to gain an added advantage over his opponent by way of a favorable verdict from a referee when a certain fight is stopped due to injury. In most cases judges go to the scoreboard and award the verdict based on whoever is ahead in the scoring up to the time of fight stoppage.

During his fight with Nate Campbell in 2009, Bradley won a TKO verdict as Campbell refused to continue fighting due a serious headbutt injury. Later the verdict was changed to "no-contest" due to accidental headbutt.

In January last year, he again prevailed over Devon Alexander in a 10th-round technical decision due to accidental headbutt.

Although there is no conclusive evidence of intentional headbutt in many of his fights, Pacquiao is wary of Bradley's fight history. He knows the fight could be stopped anytime during the fight due to a headbutt injury and a decision by the judges could go either way.

Pacquiao said he may go side-to-side with Bradley as he did when he fought Oscar de la Hoya in order to avoid Bradley's attack where he usually put forward his head first.

Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, echoes Pacquiao's impression over the young unbeaten Palm Springs boxing star.

Arum also said Bradley will beat Pacquiao if he does not concentrate on his training and preparation for the upcoming fight. He cited the case of Pacquiao's controversial victory over Marquez where he escaped with a narrow victory.

"Bradley will defeat Pacquiao if he does not concentrate," Arum said in an interview with ESPN.

The Top Rank honcho also said Bradley does't have a name like Mayweather or Marquez but as a promoter, it is his responsibility to let the public know about the real Bradley, who is actually a terrific fighter.

Though he doesn't have the needed name recognition, Bradley is a brawler and certainly a much better fighter than other popular boxers, Arum said.

Bradley is young, fresh and competitive and he will do his job to get his positive traits known to media in the course of his promotional campaign to drum up the upcoming fight, Arum added.

Arum assured boxing fans the Pacquiao vs. Bradley fight will be much better and more entertaining than the last Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight
