Masters 2012 Leaderboard: Louis Oosthuizen and Golfers Guaranteed to Falter
Plenty of golfers are bunched together in the early goings at Augusta, but the reality is, the current front-runners have to play like this for another three rounds to have a shot at the green jacket.
Augusta has a way of making even the most talented and experienced question their games, and wonder why on Earth they ever decided to enter this nightmare of a course.
Louis Oosthuizen jumped out to the lead early Thursday at the Masters, shooting a four-under 68. But he won't be around for much longer, as well as several other players who got off to a good start.
Here's a look at golfers guaranteed to falter down the stretch at Augusta.
Louis Oosthuizen
Louis Oosthuizen won the 2010 British Open and placed ninth at last year's U.S. Open, but he hasn't exactly had the same level of success at Augusta.
In the past three years, Oosthuizen hasn't even made the cut at the Masters after two rounds. After shooting a four-under par on Thursday, there's a good chance he'll at least make the cut, but I don't like him down the stretch. Augusta has never been kind to the 29-year-old South African.
Jason Dufner
It's not a surprise Jason Dufner is in the running after one round. He had four top-15 finishes headed into the Masters.
But this is only Dufner's second appearance at Augusta, and his last appearance in 2010 didn't go so well. He tied for 30th place two years ago, and will soon learn Augusta is a beast that takes years to tame.
Bubba Watson
The temperamental Bubba Watson is not a good fit for a frustrating course like Augusta. While he placed fifth at the 2007 U.S. Open and placed second at the 2010 PGA Championship, the 33-year-old has had a rough go at Augusta the past few years.
In his three appearances at Augusta, Watson has finished 20th, 42nd and 38th. His style of play figures to make Augusta one of his most difficult courses down the line, too. While he's a tremendous driver, his putting game leaves a lot to be desired. Headed into the Masters, he was ranked 81st in putting per hole.
Until Watson becomes a better putter, he's going to struggle at Augusta.
