Tiger Woods: Keys to Legend Grabbing 5th Green Jacket at the Masters
Tiger Woods will win the 2012 Masters if he can execute the following game plan. Woods has played in 15 Masters, and over the course of those tournaments patterns have emerged.
There are certain keys to Tiger playing this course that have allowed him to have so much success here. In those 15 tournaments, he has won the event four times and been in the top 10 a miraculous 12 times.
Here are the specific things he does when he is successful here.
Avoid Three-Putts
The treacherous Agusta greens have broken many a player. They are deceptively sloped, and hard enough that an average hack would be happy to walk away with a three-putt.
However, that is not something the pros can afford, and it is something that Tiger avoids when he is successful here.
Woods has never won the Masters when he has averaged more than one three-putt per round.
Destroy the Par-5s
One of the big reasons Tiger has had so much success here is that he has a game custom made to score on par-5s. He has excellent length off the tee, and he is amazing with his long irons.
When he won his first Masters in 1997, Woods was 13 under on the par-5s.
These par-5s are vital to his success at the Masters. He has to be under par on these holes each and every round.
Driving Accuracy
This is a big key for Tiger every tournament. When he puts the ball in the fairway, he is almost unbeatable. This is especially vital at Agusta.
The course is lined with hazards close to the fairway, and with the tucked-away pins and challenging greens, hitting the putting surface is nearly impossible if the ball is not in the fairway.
Woods has been controlling the ball very well off the tee. It has been a huge factor in his resurgence. In his PGA events this year, he is hitting 67.9 percent of his fairways.
If he can keep that up, he will be in excellent shape.
