Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
WWE News: Evan Bourne's Career Reportedly in Jeopardy Following Foot Injury
Evan Bourne’s whirlwind WWE career just keeps on spinning.
The high-flying superstar has had a really rough go-round as of late. He failed a wellness test and was suspended for 30 days last November, only to fail another test in January and receive a 60-day suspension as result.
Then, news broke last week that Bourne had suffered a serious foot injury and would be off of TV even longer than expected. How long? Well, it looks like it’s possible that he’ll be done for good.
From SEScoops.com:
"Evan Bourne sustained a midfoot fracture dislocation in an undisclosed accident last week as his foot was broken in four spots and dislocated in five. According to the official website of Silverman Ankle & Foot Practice, his injury, also known as a LisFranc fracture dislocation, is a career threatening injury to athletes, even when treated well.
The website says, “It is unknown whether or not Bourne will return to wrestling after this injury but one thing is certain – it’s going to be a long road to recovery.”
"
What a terrible break for Bourne.
While I was incredibly disappointed in Bourne when he got suspended and know that some people will call this “karma,” I would never wish for someone’s career to end, even if I had an intense hatred for him (which isn’t the case with Bourne). This is the man’s livelihood we’re talking about here, and I obviously don’t want to see that taken away from him.
That being said, I don’t think this is the last we’ve seen of Bourne in the ring, even though that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be in the WWE.
We have seen a number of major superstars—such Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and Edge—suffer some catastrophic injuries, and they’ve been able to bounce back from them, even if the road to recovery was a rather long one. I think Bourne will just be the latest superstar to defy the odds and return to the ring.
Professional wrestlers (well, most of them at least) live and die for the business, and barring a life-threatening injury, it’s going to take a lot to keep them down and make them call it a career.
I really like watching Bourne perform, so I hope that his injury isn’t a career-ender and that we see him rebound and come back to the WWE.
