Note: As part of the new WWE blog, I'll be asking all of the B/R wrestling readers for questions for a new mailbag that I will post on Fridays. It will be a slideshow featuring 10-20 questions and answers on a wide range of topics. You can submit questions either through Formspring or Twitter, and the best ones will be answered in the B/R mailbag.
WrestleMania 28 Results: News on World Title Plans for Sheamus After Big PPV Win
In the opening match of last night’s WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view (if you can call it a match), Sheamus beat Daniel Bryan in just 18 seconds to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Now, the WWE’s reported reasoning behind this is absolutely ridiculous. I guess that if this insanely short match accomplished anything, it got the world title onto the "Celtic Warrior."
I’m still scratching my head over how the Sheamus/Bryan match itself went down, but at least it looks like there are big plans for Sheamus following his major WrestleMania and world title victory.
"WWE officials are reportedly planning a lengthy World Heavyweight Title run for Sheamus.
"
Well, I definitely don’t have a problem with this.
You and I both know that the WWE has a long history of short title reigns, but the company has tried to combat that recently by giving lengthy reigns to CM Punk as WWE Champion, Dolph Ziggler as United States Champion and Cody Rhodes as the Intercontinental Champion.
The next step in that process is to give the new World Heavyweight Champion, Sheamus, a long run with his title. After all, he certainly deserves it.
Sheamus, who, prior to his WrestleMania victory, hadn’t won a world title since 2010, stepped up big-time for the WWE last year when SmackDown needed another top babyface, and he turned in order to fill that role.
Following his nicely done face turn, Sheamus began being booked like an unstoppable monster, and got incredibly over with the fans in the process.
"The Great White" sat back all throughout 2011, however, and never really found himself involved in a major world title feud, so it’s nice to see the WWE reward him with a much-deserved World Heavyweight title win and, hopefully, a long reign along with it.
The WWE needs to get back to the days of lengthy title reigns, and Sheamus definitely isn’t a bad person to give one to.
